By CHRISTINE FREY
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER

Poverty is a great moral issue facing the country, and Americans have an obligation to address it, John Edwards, the former senator and vice presidential candidate, said Tuesday in Seattle.

He urged Americans to launch a grass-roots movement to tackle the issue and suggested that the government raise the minimum wage.

Edwards, the former senator from North Carolina and the 2004 running mate of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, is now the director of the Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity at the University of North Carolina.

He has been traveling around the country speaking about poverty -- what he called his "life's work now" -- and appeared in downtown Seattle at a luncheon held by the Gonzaga University School of Law for about 100 people....cont'd at link

1. If it's too early to say how the 2008 primaries will turn out
it's NOT too early to say that Senator Edwards would make a persuasive top of the Democrats' ticket.

I would feel a hell of a lot better about my country if John and Elizabeth Edwards were in the White House than the current band of thugs and fixers in there now.

3. I agree, even if most DUers don't :(
Even articles about him in the MSM say he's going into a "head wind". As we're two years off, this may be a good thing ? I hope, I hope :))))

2. This is a good man.
His political possibilities/abilities/prospects aside, this is a good man.

4. Agree !
Looking at the Dem '08 prospects at this time, JRE is the "goodest" so far, and I don't mean to slight other candidates that DUers support, just typing from my heart!

5. You are preaching to the converted.
I was in Robbins when he announced that he was running. I have never felt so hopeful/energized/touched by a politician before. Or since. I know that there are a lot of people here who criticize him for various reasons, but I will always love him for the way I felt walking away from that rally. I really felt like there was finally somebody who GOT IT.

6. I tell ya...he's converted many of my
conservative friends too. Thank you for sharing renie  Methinks an appealing crossover Dem will win in 2008, whether it be Edwards or any other Dem supported by DU !

We must keep inspired to WIN !!!
