What Keeps You (Politically) Sane?
OK, it's been a bad week. The dems seriously screwed up the Alito hearings. But there are things that give me hope:

1. Bernie Sanders will be elected to the Senate, and that's sure to cause major frothing by
repukes. (He'll also be a terrific Senator)

2. The Abramoff scandals will continue to wreak havoc on the GOP. Try as they may to
paint it as a bipartisan scandal, the facts will out. Abramoff was a wingnut. He never gave
a cent to dems.

3. I've been staring blankly at the screen trying to come up with a 3rd reason to be of good cheer.
Oh well, two out of three ain't bad.

What keeps you sane/hopeful?

10. Oh yeah, ahhhhhhhhhhhhh
The thought of Rove being escorted out of the White House in handcuffs makes me drool on myself.

The only thing that makes me feel better is the thought of ALL of them being removed from the White House by SWAT teams or Navy Seals because they refuse to leave. I get shivers from the thought, its really quite sick.

2. Did somebody tell you I was sane????
I haven't been politically sane for 5-6 years!

I calmed down a little bit when Arnold lost on all his referendums and a Dem won in Va. and NJ this bast Nov, but that calm quickly disappeared when I turned on my TV the following day!

4. Actually
DU itself keeps me sane.

Here I find outlets for anger...the rants are theraputic to read..I find thoughtful insightful analysis....I find humor (some sophmoric but most okay) ....I find information through links to other sites...

It keeps me sane...it keeps me motivated.

5. Me too
Some criticize the palaver here, but for me it's pure therapy. The level of frustration in our lives is oppressive. If we couldn't be here... I shudder to think.

9. I'll give you a few
1) I'll chime in on the DU, nothing like fellow malcontents to ease the revolutionary mind.

2) No matter how bad things get, something worse and more tragic and more unusual than the last time is bound to happen. (acceptance lends itself to sanity - so I feel better just accepting that this is true).

3) If things get to out of hand I can emigrate my family somewhere else and help to try and change things myself - one way or another.

12. John Conyers, Russ Feingold and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL Congr.)
and ocassionally (when he's not being stifled by the "moderate" Democrats)-- Howard Dean.

In case you missed Congresswoman Schultz's brilliant testimony on Friday during the Alito Hearings, here's a link to the transcript. She was wonderful and as a first year Congressperson, she is someone we can all be proud of.

http://www.house.gov/apps/list/press/fl20_schultz/011306.html

"I cannot imagine my children’s future in an America without privacy rights, and the civil rights and liberties that all Americans enjoy. These are the reasons that I am here today to express concerns about the rights and freedoms that, based on his record, I believe would be threatened by Judge Alito’s elevation to the Supreme Court. Therefore, I urge you to reject Judge Alito’s nomination.

By now, we’re all familiar with Judge Alito’s writings and views on reproductive rights, each one indicating a different nuance of his opinion on a woman’s right to choose. But here’s the bottom line: You’re considering a nominee who wrote a memo urging the courts to restrict a woman’s right to make her own reproductive choices. "

Snip

"“I come from a state where executive power and government intrusion on privacy rights has been repeatedly abused. Florida’s Governor pushed the State Legislature to grant him authority to overturn a judicial decision in the Terri Schiavo case, and Congress inserted itself into that family’s private tragedy.

“Ultimately, the case could have reached the Supreme Court. Let’s think about this for a minute. Can America risk ‘Supreme Court Justice’ Alito casting the deciding vote to drag us through another tragic saga similar to the Terri Schiavo case? I don’t think America can endure another Terri Schiavo case."

14. The Pretender
I'm gonna be a happy idiot
And struggle for the legal tender
Where the ads take aim and lay their claim
To the heart and the soul of the spender
And believe in whatever may lie
In those things that money can buy
where true love could have been a contender
Are you there?
Say a prayer for the Pretender.
Who started out so young and strong
Only to surrender.

I don't know if that will make any sense to all of you, but this is how I feel.

Maybe I am on freedom defeciency overload, but our country saddens me. Bushco owns it all.

18. Knowing it's a freak show
Coming to the conclusion that civilization is a long running joke. Seeing both sides simply wanting the power to do what they want, and how if it's your guy in power, things just look better. Little things can be let go, can be excused away. Language is a funny thing.

That doesn't keep me hopeful though. My brain just doesn't work that way. "If we just organize the people!", or "we can fight them, and they'll pay for their crimes!", these things don't make sense to me. It's been done, and here we are.

The only thing that keeps me sane is knowing that we're spinning around on a rock, with no real destination, making crap up as we go along. We can't keep "growing" exponentially, and we're due for a collapse, no matter how optimistic politicians tell us things will be when they want our money and vote. Civilizations have fallen before. They all do. We'll be no different because we're America, and told we're special.

Even if Bush and the GOP were to be held accountable, it will happen again at some point. It has to, because that's what civilization does. It keeps repeating the same crap over and over again. It's not a coincidence.

22. Talking to people and seeing how pissed they are
It makes me laugh because there isn't a thing ** can do about people's opinions of him.

ANd when I hear former ** supporters just chew him up and spit him out now, or see the last holdouts unable to even argue politics these days, it cracks me up.

And ** is so damned stupid, he doesn't even have the sense to cut and run before EVERYBODY hates his sorry ass.
