Facts on # of US wounded casualties from foreign press
The report also reveals that caring for wounded military personnel is going to be a far bigger and more expensive job than previously thought. The study notes that the Veterans Benefits Administration had originally projected that 23,553 veterans returning from Iraq would seek medical care last year, but in June it revised this number to 103,000. It also is now responsible for providing care to an estimated 90,000 National Guard personnel, who previously were not eligible for its services. To meet these unforeseen demands, the administration appealed to Congress for an emergency $1.5 billion in funding for fiscal 2005. It is likely to face a shortfall of $2.6 billion in 2006.

4. I had no idea until I read this how high our casualty rate is
they repeat the number of deaths all the time but I had no idea that we have
close to 200,000 wounded and that does not include Afghanistan and the
numbers used are from last June.

6. Yes, I understand but congress should be alerting us
they should have the duty to let us know what is going on.

12. our congress reps get special mailing privileges
Mostly they use it for vote for me or send me money, there should be a report to us
on the state of the union and it should be more than 1 a year.

13. I don't think they spend any time...
even alerting themselves. Now they're spending all their time avoiding getting hit with Abramoff moneyballs.

21. they have been reticent to criticize this war
their response seems to be gee whiz, maybe we shouldn't have gone to war but now that
we are there, we have to stay the course

7. the bush crime family will ensure that the VA remains underfunded
and that most of the returning vets will be untreated and the rest will have to scratch and claw for treatment for the rest of their lives.

8. I don't think this will work, GIs are not going to give up benefits
I think the Republicans only think short term, they enjoy the idea that the democrats
will be left with the tab, while Rush and others will continue to demonize everything
the democrats do, they have overreached this time, the American people realize the
joke is on them.

11. It doesn't matter
These wounded soldiers are going to be at the Wal-Mart, the 7-11, your church, they'll be a heck of a lot closer to you than your congressman in DC. I think that we owe it to them
to have a d***m good reason why we asked them to make the sacrifice they did and
we owe it to them to have a strategy to fight the war effectively.

17. I read in Fooled Again
they had to make sure that the military did not vote for Kerry, in some places the only
way they could vote was to hand their vote over the counter, to be faxed by another person.
