What do people mean when they say, "We weren't in Iraq when 9/11 happened"
Isn't that same thing as: I wasn't out "beating up" Republicans when I caught the flu, so now that I have the flu, I should go out and beat-up Republicans?

Or, Perhaps more precisely, they are saying: Invading Iraq doesn't cause Terrorism.

But that seems to be the same thing as: I didn't catch AIDS when I had sex with someone who has AIDS, so having sex with persons who have AIDS doesn't cause AIDS.

Sorry about the sick allegories here; I'm tring to think of some that are more acceptable. Any ideas?

1. Aggressive tactics breed terrorism...America has been playing
"bully on the block" for too long.

6. It is like that, because we are saying it isn't necessary
to find out who did 9/11. Just answer whatever you want on your test, you're not responsible for the right informaiton, because you missed it.

5. Well, we hadn't landed a human on Mars on 9/11, and still haven't
Clearly, our lack of manned Mars mission (MMM) causes terrorism.

Actually, I had a network to install on 9/10, but was delayed and headed up on 9/11 to install it. If I'd had that network (in a veterinary clinic) up and running on 9/10, perhaps everything would be different.

Guess it's my fault.

7. I haven't heard someone say that
is it usually in response to the (absolutely true) argument that invading Iraq increased the threat of terrorism?

Maybe the conversation would go like this?:

Bushbot: Our military is in Iraq to keep America safe! Better fight them there than here!

Reasonable Person: But invading Iraq actually increased the threat of terrorism. (usually, instead of this, I question the morality of using the Iraqi people as flypaper, but that's just me)

BB: We weren't in Iraq when 9/11 happened!

RP: We weren't in Saudi Arabia either. And, our president was busy on vacation instead of paying attention to briefings that said Al Qaida planned to hijack airplanes. Maybe we should have been doing something beforehand.

BB: Rant about Clinton's penis

RP: excuses him/herself and goes to check DU.

8. Re that flypaper - Me TOO!!!
Not only is it Immoral to cause others to Die for what you profess to believe in, it is the opposite of ALL of the great stuff we say about ourselves. You know: Strength, Commitment, Courage, Faith.

That's why, I'm sorry to say, there should be a Universal Draft anytime "we" agree to go to war. No exceptions of ANY kind. Whether war is in fact Moral, is still a question to me because I think it is usually failed leadership, but universal draft would at least make it more possible for more people to make their own decisions about that question.

9. The answer is this...

"Well, er, no. We weren't. 9/11 wasn't perpetrated by anyone in or from Iraq. There was no need to be in Iraq before, during or after 9/11."
