Why the Iraqi's aren't standing up with the military
I'm listening to the Young Turks and the owner of crooksandliars.com is on now as a guest and he's saying he was listening to some conservative radio host and a military man called in to this show who trained Iraqi men in their military. The reason why, according to this guy, the Iraqi's haven't stud up is because they believe in that we're not leaving because of the oil and they're not going to risk their lives for us. I wouldn't either and they know the oil plays a big role in us being there. Remember they did burn some oil fields. Also mentioned is that the Oil-For-Food scandal was only $2 million while the Bush administration lost $9 billion and nobody has tried to hold hearings or do anything to try to find them. Some mercenaries are in Iraq who are above the law and acting like it. Bush needs to tell them that we're not going to stay there but he hasn't because they do have plans to build military bases there. Two kids who have never done PR supported George Bush in the last election and now they're in charge of doing PR in Iraq (propoganda, they're the one's behind it) and they've never done anything like that before. The first time they got $20 million.

1. I think we should respect the Iraqis for standing in *resistance* to the
US military!

2. Imagine being Iraqi military or police . . . .
You have to decide whether to kill other Iraqis or put yourself in danger of being killed for a regime that quite possibly will not survive our departure vs. killing other Iraqis or being killed yourself for a more permenent regime that is propped up by our permanent presence. Damned if you and damned if you don't. And your fellow Iraqis will not forget how you work this one out one way or the other. I know what I'd do if I were in their position: Nothing.

4. I could never do it
I feel so bad for them. I remember them hearing about how some of them couldn't tell anybody they were in the new Iraqi military because they were afraid of being seen as traitors. :( I feel so awful for them. Imagine killing your own people. What if you had to kill your family?

3. Yeah Franken covered these guys in his newest book. Got rich off a fat
contract to run propaganda in Iraq, 20 mil to print fake stories in Iraqi papers about "everything's great", probably to hire dudes to say that on DU as well, LOL.

Gee I wonder if the US taxpayer got their money's worth for 20 mil? These young dudes certainly got a major return for their campaign investment!

6. Right which is important to notice
They got them because they're loyal and would do anything Bush would ask. I do have Franken's newest book but I haven't read that part yet I don't think. One guy on the Young Turks also just noted that before Iraq the military in the Pentagon tried to get permission to attack Zarqarwi (sp?) and each time they asked they were denied by the Pentagon. They had to have Zarqarwi so they could go into Iraq. Iraq was very secular but now they're fundamentalists. It's so sad. :(

5. Lincoln Group
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-infowar30nov30,0,5638790.story?coll=la-home-headlines

...

"Absolute truth was not an essential element of these stories," said the senior military official who spent this year in Iraq.

...

Lincoln Group, formerly known as Iraqex, is one of several companies hired by the U.S. military to carry out "strategic communications" in countries where large numbers of U.S. troops are based.

Some of Lincoln Group's work in Iraq is very public, such as an animated public service campaign on Iraqi television that spotlights the Iraqi civilians killed by roadside bombs planted by insurgents.

Besides its contract with the military in Iraq, Lincoln Group this year won a major contract with U.S. Special Operations Command, based in Tampa, to develop a strategic communications campaign in concert with special operations troops stationed around the globe. The contract is worth up to $100 million over five years, although U.S. military officials said they doubted the Pentagon would spend the full amount of the contract.

7. IRAQI POLL: #1 reason US invaded & occupies Iraq...OIL.
Iraqis just aren't as stupid as rightwingnuts are.

Skepticism About U.S. Deep, Iraq Poll Shows

Only 5 percent of those polled said they believed the United States invaded Iraq "to assist the Iraqi people," and only 1 percent believed it was to establish democracy there.

Forty-three percent of the respondents said they believed that U.S. and British forces invaded in March primarily "to rob Iraq's oil."

While 37 percent believed the United States acted to get rid of the Hussein regime, only 5 percent thought it did so "to assist the Iraq people," the poll found.

8. YouGov poll in Iraq; US invasion to steal Iraq's oil
-Believed reason for bush's war; “to secure oil supplies” (47 per cent) and “to help Israel” (41 per cent). Just 23 per cent said US aim was “to liberate the people of Iraq”, while 7 per cent said “to protect Kuwait”.
