4. What makes Santorum most vulnerable?
I'd like to hear it articulated.

24. He's 10-20 points behind Casey
And I think most Pennsylvania voters view him as a nut.

15. Isn't Jay Nixon (a Dem) running against him?
I live in Arkansas, but sort of follow Missouri politics. Jay Nixon has been a very popular state official who will give Talent a run for his money, imho.

16. No Nixon is running for gov
and Mickey Mouse could beat Blunt so he will most likely easily win.

Claire McCaskill is challenging Talent. She lost the gov race to Blunt in 04.

22. Ever since I heard that Blunt gutted medicaid
and that one lady in southwest MO was losing the oxygen she needed to breathe, I've felt that if I lived in MO I'd vote for a rock if it meant Blunt were out of office.

23. I get to go visit him on Tuesday
It's Child Advocacy Day in Jeff City. Last year he didn't come talk to those who were there to advocate for our children. First governor to not welcome that group since Child Advocacy Day started.

It will be interesting to see if he comes out to welcome our group this year.

21. I haven't seen those polls
Does the poll split the Dem ticket so that it may, in fact, be skewing the results? Maybe this is wishful thinking, but I really thought that DesWine was in trouble.

8. byrd
his challenger owns half the media in wv and has a record for getting very, very nasty
and a lot of us in the dem base are pissed at ol' bob, too, so it's hard to rally us to fight back

17. sorry-didn't see the repub in the title-my mistake
still, i think the dems would be fools to take a byrd win for granted, given raese's media power and history of successfully spreading disinfo and smear blitzes

12. Sorry to be rude to you but...
fuck off about Byrd. I don't like the fact that he will vote for Alito, but many seem to forget that he has historically been a CONSERVATIVE Democrat, albeit in the "traditional conservative" mold, and not that of the Neo-Cons. He even supports a quick withdrawal similar to Murtha. We need him to speak up.

10. Man-On-The-Dog!
Santorum is bleeding support to Bob Casey. However, there are two factors that still concern anyone paying attention:

1. Casey's pro-life stance. How will this help him in the Pro-choice Republican suburbs? How can he get those same "Security Mom" '04 voters who are against overturning Roe v. Wade to stay in his side? His support for Alito may depress the base....although being pro-life isn't necessarily a liability state-wide, a lot of the pro-life extremists already support Man-On-Dog and I doubt they change.

2. Lynn Swann's coattails. Swann could very well defeat Rendell, who is perceived by many in the state as "Governor of Philadelphia" because they believe that Rendell is paying too much attention to the city that he was formerly Mayor of, and not enough attention to Western and Central Pennsylvania. Swann, as a Steeler, could carry more momentum, especially if the Steelers win the Super Bowl, because he represents Western PA/Pittsburgh, and could get some black voters to support him. What bothers me is that he could bring more voters for Santorum just by giving his support. Santorum only won in 1994 because it was a Republican year, and in 2000 because of Bush's coattails. Coattails have kept him in power.

14. Conrad Burns
He's got the abramoff stink all over him. Plus he only won 51 percent las time around even when shrub carried the state by 20 points. Oh wait, and Dems picked up the state legislature and the governorship.

If that's not enough, I don't know what is.

20. Santorum, but...
Bob Casey, Jr. is an DLC Democrat. Tom Hartman interviewed a guy on Friday that says Casey's views on issues are almost the same as Shrub's. I am MUCH less enthusiastic about him now.
