a rebate for the rest of us
here's something pretty simple-minded.

$1,000 rebate for every man, woman and child in america.

at about $300 million people, this would cost about $300 billion, which is hardly unreasonable given the standards set by shrub for tax cuts. meanwhile, the shrub tax cuts for the uber-rich can expire, or be repealed.

i see a balanced budget, booming economy, struggling people getting back on their feet, good times for all.

most of all, over 95% of all households would come out ahead with this rebate even with the shrub tax cuts expiring.

i think this would be a huge win for democrats. and fair? what could be more fair than everybody getting the same amount?

it also lets us highlight that EVERYBODY pays taxes, because it's not just income taxes. it's excise taxes, payroll taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, and so on.

thoughts?

1. dream on
the chimp doesn't give a damn about people.

he will never allow his tax cuts for the uber-rich to expire and the dems in congress can't muster the votes to defeat anything this power hungry twirp does to screw us over.

2. He panders to the rich, not average people.
Be grateful they haven't lined you up alongside a pit with everyone else who might need social services.

4. fwiw, i have no need for social services.
i've come out ahead by quite a bit these last few years.
between the real estate boom and the tax cuts and investing against the dollar and the small company i work for managing to stay afloat and even turning a nice profit, i'm a long way away from needing social services.

but i'd give it all up for a return to actual democracy and democratic values. i'd MUCH rather be taxed at a higher rate and see the money going for good instead of into pockets of war profiteers, oil billionaires, and upper middle class people like me for whom a few thousand bucks is not going to change economic behavior.
