Enron's Lay and Skilling to use "Conspiracy Theory" Defense...
It was just on NPR's morning edition. Link later.

I should have guessed. The biggest crimes of the last decade (9/11, Election Fraud, Wellstone, etc., etc) have all been dismissed as "Conspiracy Theories", why not Enron?

Brilliant! And the government has actually charged them with "conspiracy". Just try to get jurors that are willing to state publicly that they subscribe to an Internet-Fueled Conspiracy Theory. Brilliant!

Story will be posted at NPR site later:

1. If nothing else
these assholes are really entertaining.

I love it, it's the internet's fault. People can talk directly to each other and exchange information and learn the truth. Oh my, can't have that now, can we?

2. At this point, I have absolutely no idea where this thing is going.
But if they want to go the conspiracy route, I guess we're gonna have to open up the books on those pre-9/11 Energy Task Force meetings.

3. Yes, they'll have to be subpoenaed
Oh, and Crashcart has to be called as a material witness.

5. What really gets me about these defense strategies
What really gets me about the defense strategies in these cases is the unspoken assertion by these high-flying crooks is that they never have no idear whatsoever how all this complicated bidness stuff works. Yes, they did take "compensation" of millions and millions of dollars every year, but they couldn't tell you the first thing about how that ever happened. Why, the money just fell out of the sky and into their pockets. No clue how or why; would YOU worry about why $25 million suddenly showed up in your bank account? Of course not.

6. Good
Maybe people will wake up to the fact that there really are conspiracies - conspiracies to steal, conspiracies to make war, conspiracies to become more wealthy and more powerful, etc., etc.

They can call it whatever they want - unless they buy the jury - these guys are toast.
