Why Al Sharpton and Dennis Kucinich need to stay in the Debates
Edited on Sat Jan-31-04 05:08 PM by corporatewhore
Al Sharpton is the only person of color in the debates.Have been called a greasy mexican and other lovely names to my face i have been stopped for no apparent reason a couple of times.I think that Al Sharpton is the only cannidate who can relate to this he is the only one who can bring the perspective of a Person of color to the debates.John Kerry and Howard Dean i dont think will ever fully comprehend racism.
Dennis Kucinich is the only cannidate who holds a Union Card.We need a voice for labor in this debate esp since Gephardt is gone.Dennis Kucinich is the most vocal opposition to free trade by proxy he is the most vocal voice for indigenous people (like my grandmother whose land has been raped) and the SLAVES !!!! who work in the sweat shops.Even free trade is steeped heavily into racism i have an easier time talking about fair trade when i mention outsourcing than i do about poor brown people being exploited and their land being stolen.Dennis Kucinich have been the only ones who will bring our troops home. The occupation hurts the poor the most we are the ones dying for colonialsim we are the ones who are being robbed of our services for more bombs.Dennis Kucinich and Al Sharpton know what it is to be poor.Al Sharpton grew up as a poor black child (two strikes against him) and Dennis Kucinich grew up in 17 different houses and even lived in cars (i didnt have to live in a car but lived in a couple of crummy motels) That is why they are champions for universal health care
It is barbaric not to have it I have had to watch my mom after having a seisure decide whether to go to the hospital to get checkouted or not because of the expense.
THE VOICES OF THE POOR AND MINORITIES SHOULD NOT BE SHUT OUT OF THE DEBATES

1. Al and Dennis should stay as long as they want to
The debates will SUCK without either of those two on. Otherwise it's "pander pander pander, attack attack attack, obfuscate obfuscate obfuscate".

:D

2. Al and Dennis have nothing to lose so they can say what needs
to be said the way it needs to be said.

That is also why they need to stay in the debates.

7. I totally agree they need to stay, but I have a ?...
when you say"they have nothing to lose" so they can speak up....are you implying that the rest of the candidates are not saying what needs to be said???

This concerns me...why can't ALL the candidates speak the truth???
Is it because we wouldn't want or like to know what thier "truths" are??

How have we gotten to this point of so many games and obfuscations?

I am extremely grateful that Kucinich and Sharpton are sticking around and have more guts & courage than all the other candidates put together! JMHO

Peace
DR

4. They are the only ones with the courage to tell it like it is.
The others are more concerned with reaching to the middle.

6. Yep, they keep it real! Plus, my husband is a big DK supporter and would

be pissed if he wasn't in the debates. My husband is totally of the mindset that something is seriously wrong with this country and this democratic process because people like DK should have stronger voices. If they take them out of the debate, he will say "see, see, he should be heard!"

He thinks it is a total shame that someone as smart as DK doesn't either have a bigger audience or have a bigger voice. (I agree with him on that issue!)

Edit: Dk has some solid plans!

8. These two men have busted their asses for over a year.
No one has the right to tell them to step aside. They should stay until they want to go, if necessary, until the convention.

9. FWIW, DK has connected very strongly with both red & brown people
he has spent time in AZ at an Hispanic womens shelter in Phx and speaks Spanish fluently.

He also attended the Navajo Dine Bidziil coaltiton gathering where he was endored by thier group and blessed by a medicne man...it was quite moving to watch.

I also love that Dennis is now talking about healing the divisions between peoples in a way that is meaningful...

Dennis has always spoken for the poor & the minorities and I agree 1000% ...they need someone to speak for them for a change

Dennis rocks!!

Peace

10. Because their being there makes people feel better about not supporting
them.

As long as people can say oh I like his ideas he is the soul of the party and brings a fresh voice and passion and so glad they are there it is a little easier to give a poignant little smile and pat them on the head and send money to a gray ectomorph whose staff does a really good job of rewriting PNAC so it doesn't really sound that bad, no really, it sounds so much better than the way the bush people phrased it....
