Longshoremen To The Rescue - How About This......
I heard some longshoremen statements on the radio today that are very against this UAE port deal. Many are saying this is a dangerous and stupid move on the part of *Co.

Then I heard that * will veto any attempt by congress to stop this deal. I was thinking - well what can be done to prevent * from a veto. How about a "longshoremen" flu; slowdown; walkout; strike; etc.

Have them back up the ports; the ships coming into ports; the shipments out of the ports to the supply chain; etc.

I know that it would effect each and every one of us in our day-to-day living - but I think an action like the ones mentioned above could bring *Co to its knees.

It would certainly call attention to this issue in a big way and allow Dems, Progressives and Middle of the Roader Repugs to spotlight all the stupid and dangerous things this administration has been doing to us since 2000.

1. As usual, it's up to the Unions to protect Americas working class.
Anyone who is pro-Union, is pro-America.

7. It'll be pretty tough to break the Longshoremens union if
they're anything like the ILWU, out here on the West coast.

5. We owe so much to our unions....
I have no doubt this would happen if push comes to shove. But I fear BushCo would try to break the union, ala Reagan and the air traffic controllers.

9. If the Democrats in Congress would act like a union, and

work with the many Republicans (Bill Frist, Pete King, Lindsay Graham, etc.) who are speaking out against this, they could pass a bill to make sure that all our ports are operated by American companies and if Bush** vetoed it, they could override his veto.

It's time for a showdown between the people's representatives and the man who would be emperor.

What the hell were we doing allowing a British company to run these ports and how long has that been going on? Are there other ports being run by foreign-owned companies?

Every country should be solely responsible for its own ports and borders; their security is as important as having a strong military for defense purposes. These things are necessities unless we get complete global disarmament and universal peace agreements.

12. Longshoreman WILL stand up for us....
...if it ever comes to that. The West coast longshoreman (and I would guess the East coast longshoreman, too) would have no qualms about fighting to save their country...they are an extremely patriotic bunch! However...

....IMO it is important to remember that part of this U.A.E. deal has to do with breaking the unions. If the deal goes through, the U.A.E. could hire their own stevedores...at much lower wages. Longshoreman have one of the STRONGEST UNIONS here in the United States and I can't imagine them allowing this outsourcing to happen. Yes, I believe they would fight FOR US....but....

...would YOU be willing to support their fight? Would YOU be willing to find some of the store shelves empty because merchandise is still in port? Would YOU be willing to put up with the inconvenience of having to wait for cargo to be delivered? These seem to be simple questions, but if YOU REALLY expect someone else to fight this battle for you....YOU had better be willing to support those who are willing to risk everything for you.

(Rent ON THE WATERFRONT this weekend.)
