How are Dems racist when
all the "lefties" have been the ones defending the rights of the Arabs, against the wishes of the Reichies?

2. Because they couched their objections to the UAE contract
in a way that could be spun as anti-Arab. If they had kept their concerns focused on "port security in a time of war should not be in the control of ANY foreign company; British, Dutch, German - no foreign company in time of war", they would have been better off. But because it was presented with the emphasis on the "Arab", Bush gets to play the "bigot" card...

3. Bush can play...
... the bigot card all he wants, the average American is not going to fall for the guilt bullshit on this one.

4. And the bigots that support bush...
are not going to concern themselves with UAE feelings. He loses on all sides with this one.

5. Exactly..
... what is the ONLY issue the Republicans are polling well on? NATIONAL SECURITY.

George Bush is shooting himself in the foot. He doesn't care, he's a lame duck, but the Senate and House care, they are DEPENDING on this "tough on terror" crap to save them.

They CANNOT LET this deal happen. It is as simple as that.

6. I agree with you completely, but we are not dealing with
"normal", here. Just wait, the talking heads will get their talking points and before you know it, Bush will personally capture a "number three man in Al-Qaeda" and the rotten Democrats will want every American man to be forced to sleep with a gay cowboy.

If Bush wins this, it is just the same old, same old; if Bush loses this, the Republicans win it. I just don't have very high hopes on this. I really hope that I am wrong...

9. Right, National Security was his ONLY stronghold
something is so very fishy to make him basically give that up. I have never been a big conspiracy guy but this reeks of something and I don't like it.

8. Using the wrong language. Generalizing to Arab. Arab is a cultural
Edited on Wed Feb-22-06 09:39 AM by applegrove
denotation like anglo saxon or saxon. You could be Christian & Arab. Or Muslim & Arab. Or buddhist & Arab. Or Atheist & Arab.

I think we should say "I object to the royal family of a middle eastern state and crony friend of Bush & madras funder - running our ports".

Or whatever the case is with Dubai. Be more specific.

Cause Arab is vague and not the issue. Hospitals, Universities, Corporations, & institutions are already being run by Arab-Americans in the USA. Ya dig!

13. No - but it is the truth. It is what it is. So I expect DU to be able to
handle it. And yes - many have very quickly changed to Dubai Elite. Or whatever - the truth is.

Fact is - the deal could have more to do with the amount of Middle Eastern Oil money chasing out American money from the USA. That has been a problem for a long time - Saudi investments, etc. By handing over less profitable things "like ports" to be invested in by Middle East elites - they leave great investments like "bio-tech" for their own dam selves to invest in.

Don't know if this last thing fits into the deal - if at all.

Think it is a crummy idea to sell off management of the ports. For all the reasons DU talks about and more.

10. Same way that they are racist against Condi for Sec. State,
and Gonzalez for AG. It was based on race, not that they were obviously too corrupt and incompetent to hold their respective positions.

14. No. When people complain that criticizing Rice for being unqualified,
over her head, a neocon, a shrill, ... they were specifically criticizing her actions. So to label Dems as racist for commenting on her actions is just a manipulation technique used car salesmen use all the time. And now - one the Presidency uses all the time.

To generalize about the port sale as "arab" is racist. Because you need to get specific. It isn't the cultural background of elites in Dubai that is the problem. It is the current actions & practices of the elites in the middle east.
