With respect to the Port Security sell-out
Am I mistaken, or wasn't it the Repuke party who made a BIG deal about never allowing a foreign government to be in charge of our troops - vis-a-vis during UN operations?

So maybe we should throw that back into their sell-out faces. Yes, no?

1. Absolutely....
That's what the democratic party is doing wrong....it was Bush who said the Kerry would sell out the US...we need to throw it in their faces over and over and over..again

10. I think so too
cantstandbush.

*offtopic* I also smell a "Operation Northwoods" type thing with respect to whats happening in Iraq with the bombing of that one Masque. I think it may be meant to drag in Iran and give further justification for an attack upon Iran. */offtopic*

11. Bush to Kerry "I'll NEVER Hand Over America's Security to Foreign Leaders"
"Bush to Kerry "I'll NEVER Hand Over America's Security to Foreign Leaders"
But here's the thing. Bush has been playing politics with this complicated situation for years now, saying things like "you're either with us or you're with the terrorists." He spent the entire presidential campaign taunting John Kerry for allegedly requiring a "global test" and using his applause lines like a bludgeon:

I will never hand over America's security decisions to foreign leaders and international bodies that do not have America's interests at heart.

... the senator would have America bend over backwards to satisfy a handful of governments with agendas different from our own.

This is my opponent's alliance-building strategy: brush off your best friends, fawn over your critics. And that is no way to gain the respect of the world."

14. So the job of the Coast Guard is to smoke cigarettes and tell dirty jokes?
If so, then that should be the issue.

But since appealing to the worst in Americans has worked so well for the GOP, you can't really blame Democrats for trying to appeal to racist fears of Arabs.

15. Racism?
Whaaaaa? I am not aware of any Democrat playing a race card. I could be wrong, but the only issue I see being brought up is the fact of allowing some of our ports to be ran by people from a country with a shady background. I don't see how race makes a difference. I have no idea why you brought race into this thread.

And as far as your sarcasm with respect to the U.S. Coast Guard. The Coast Guard is but one facet of port security. In fact, the twelve years I've worked on the docks, I've got more fingers necessary to count how many times I've seen the U.S. Coast Guard on the docks.

Now on the other hand, its the U.S. Customs who you often see on the docks and their presence on the docks is a small one. Like I said....... I work on the docks as a longshoreman and unlike someone who only reads about port operations -- I am part of it everyday. Both the U.S. Customs & Coast Guard are a small presence on the docks and both rely upon different sources of intelligence to tag suspected ships or containers for inspection. Guess who's one of those sources that are relied upon to prevent breech of security at our ports? Guess who's one of the parties who implements security procedures at the port terminals? Guess what two parties are in the best position to doctor paperwork for smuggling purposes? Here's a little hint.......Not the U.S. Coast Guard or U.S. Customs.
