Will anyone have the guts to make a POLITICAL statement at the OSCARS?
Edited on Fri Mar-03-06 09:48 PM by laugle
I thought I would get the word out in the hopes of someone coming forward tommorrow night, ala Michael Moore.

I know Michael got booed, but I think the time is right for someone to stand up for the people. It's just the Oscars but gets lots of publicity!

Maybe George Clooney, Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, even Jon Stewart.

I think they would probably get a standing ovation!!!

Any predictions!!!!!!

1. If Clooney wins, I predict him to say something political!!
And well Jon Stewart, it's in his nature to say something political! ;)

4. I agree with you. Clooney has a political message.
It's outrageous that there's such pressure to keep political comments out of the speeches. If they win and they want to use their 30 seconds to advocate for whatever, well that's OK by me.

14. Right. Some of these movies have baggage already
and it will leach into the material (such as Clooney and Stewart's comedy bit around Brokeback Mountain).

He has a lot of nominations and he always has a few choice words to say on the political subject.

Go Mr C!

8. I hope your right, but lately I have noticed a softening
to George Clooney, hell, he was even being nice about O'Lielly!!!

But I noticed O'Lielly slaming him again tonight, I can only stand 5 minutes of him!!

7. Someone complained about all the money wasted at the Olympic ceremonies
I'll bet twice that amount will be tied up in evening gowns, limo rides, and excess jewelry tomorrow night.

33. Agree cali
I hate all entertainment awards shows.

We give these guys the power to determine what we see on tv and in the movies and they decide what we should see is them giving awards to each other. It seems so masturbatory to me.

Now if they had an awards show of the greatest inventors of the year, or greatest humanitarians, I'd watch.

No one has seen them (the movies are left wing political in nature).
No one will watch.

21. F#@! the Oscars
How about someone (other than Byrd) getting up in the well of the Senate and telling it like it is about BushCo? Oh, excuse me, I lost my head. They're all too busy voting for the "Patriot" Act while the U.S. sinks deeper into Fascism.

22. With Bush =< 39% approval, wouldn't it be their JOBS to?
I mean, the whole point of the entertainment industry doing such crappy jobs is that they're only delivering what the people WANT.

So, IMO, there is no jusification for them holding back from LAYING INTO Bush*Co.

I expect him to win in the Original Screenplay category for "Good Night and Good Luck". That would be the perfect venue for him to make a political statement.

27. The Oscars have frequently been used to advance
the political agenda of a particular winner. We shall see who will stand up and say what... I hope they all stand up and tell it like it is...

28. Hell, if ever there was a time, this
is the time. With president warhardon poll numbers lower than the unibombers were, yes it is time to speak up..... Why is it an actor or actress cannot state their views at something like this, when the so called religious right give their views against in any venue they hold... I say Jon Stewart should give a blistering and funny opening about bush, and then let it all hang out....

30. I hope Goodnight and Good Luck Wins
I think it will probably win something. The movie shows that people shouldn't ask if someone is a criminal but whether they are involved in a criminal act. We need to learn this as a country, when you only seek to incriminate and not to actually protect you will hurt innocent people. Crime investigation is the Kevin Bacon game with all of society, anyone can somehow be related to a crime or a criminal. Simply seeking out that kind of information doesn't do the accused justice.
