Eleanor Clift, Dem's need to stand up on national security.
Newsweek columnist, and Mc.Laughlin group member Eleanor Clift says the Democrats have to put out a plan on how they would handle the national security issues, because the party cannot be seen as weak on this vital issue.

Clift says the Democrats have been in a "defensive crouch" because the they have let the Republicans get the upper hand when it comes to security issues. In fact it's gotten so bad, that Dem. minority leader Harry Reid shouts from the heavens that Democrats are just as patriotic as Republicans. For so long the Democrats have been "boxed in" with regards to security, that most of America doesn't trust the party with this issue. Reid said at a press conference last week, that Democrats are not going to confine themselves to domestic issues. Reid feels that Bush is so vulnerable on the issue of national security, that Democrats can directly attack the president, and not suffer politically.

Reid also said that there would be no more "Max Cleland's". Cleland, a triple amputee, lost the Senate race to Saxby Chambliss because Chambliss questioned Cleland's patriotism.

However, Reid still feels that a large number of Americans, still feel the Democrats are weak on security, and will try to change people's minds "one person at a time". Clift said some Democrats are standing up like Jack Murtha, but we need more than just a handful to truly make a difference.

7. They should come out with an alternative plan that allows domestic wire
tapping with some type of check. It's been over three months now since this has been discovered and nothing of any real merit has been done about it.

If they came out with their own plan, at least people would know there was a difference between them and the rubber stampers.
