Tom DeLay told Chris Matthews he will WITHDRAW from re-election bid
Just now on Scarborough. Many details and threads to follow, I'm sure. Thought he had a 50-50 chance of winng and apparently reconsidered.

2. Polls don't lie
He knows he can't get reelected and that they would likely lose the seat. It's too late. The seat will be Lampson's.

5. To tell the truth
I didn't think he would get reelected anyway. A lots of folks are changing their mindset about this bunch of crooks. Was worried about being Diebolded though. This was the only way I saw him winning.

8. I think you're right. I'm not sure he could have (legally) won this
election. I am happy to see him go. Wonder who he'll blame for this. I'm certain he won't take responsibility for the mess he's created for himself.

10. I think he saw the poll numbers and knew that he wasn't going to win.
My thoughts are that he was either pushed to do this or that he is getting out to save face (a loss).

I really think that we have hit rock bottom, Gov. Taft is polling at 6%, why wouldn't he
resign. Has he no shame, no decency?

Trimpac, money laundering, bribery, election fixing (I heard he was involved in trying

18. also confirmed: he's insane
Not content with merely comparing himself to Jesus:

"I said a little prayer before I actually did the fingerprint thing, and the picture," he said. "My prayer was basically: 'Let people see Christ through me. And let me smile.' Now, when they took the shot, from my side, I thought it was fakiest (sic) smile I'd ever given. But through the camera, it was glowing. I mean, it had the right impact. Poor old left couldn't use it at all."

....DeLay said at his police booking in Texas.

U.S. Representative Tom DeLay on Capitol Hill

Exclusive: Tom DeLay Says He Will Give Up His Seat

The embattled former Republican leader tells TIME that he will leave Congress and not seek reelection

By MIKE ALLEN/SUGAR LAND, TEXAS
April 3, 2006

DeLay, a Baptist born in the border city of Laredo, said he "spent a lot of time" praying about his decision and that his personal relationship with Jesus drives his day-to-day actions. "My faith is who I am," he said. When DeLay was booked on the Texas charges, he wore his Congressional I.D. pin and flashed a broad smile designed to thwart Democrats who had hoped to make wide use of an image of a glowering DeLay. "I said a little prayer before I actually did the fingerprint thing, and the picture," he said. "My prayer was basically: 'Let people see Christ through me. And let me smile.' Now, when they took the shot, from my side, I thought it was fakiest smile I'd ever given. But through the camera, it was glowing. I mean, it had the right impact. Poor old left couldn't use it at all."

processed in a jail. Do you think he sees himself as a Christ-figure being persecuted by worldly foes bent on his downfall? or does he not believe it but just say it cause he thinks others will? either way, batshit crazy.

I mean I can see getting somewhat of a Jesus complex if you work for a charity or do something benevolent but damn, to think these thoughts when being processed in jail's just strange.

even strange for Delay.

That's some freaky shit.

17. Finally a "feel good post" Bush_Eats_Beef, you are just too kind;)
Imagine the disappointment, the regrets, the sad inner dialogue ("Tommy, you idiot, idiot, idiot - punches self in face - "you had it all, you were a contender" - throws up - "What if those pictures get out...idiot, fool, idiot") or something like that.

This is like the Hallmark Special at Christmas.

Thanks for a very special present.

20. Resigning his seat too...
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12141276/

"The Associated Press quoted unnamed officials as saying DeLay also is likely to resign his seat and leave Congress by the end of May.

Matthews said that DeLay told him in an interview that “the polling on him in the 22nd District was going down,” as a result of his part in a campaign contribution controversy."

25. I et there's a lot more to this story that not running & resignation!
DeLay is far too arrogant, selfrightous, and stubborn to do this UNLESS there's BIG trouble ahead for him. I bet there's some very explosive news about to come out about him, and since he's said he's resigning his seat by the end of May, that news will probably come out in June!
