McKinney - all the so sure people..
... here really bother me. If you haven't seen the video, you really don't know anything useful about this incident. I can make up any number of scenarios in which the policeman was in the wrong, and scenarios where McKinney was in the wrong. Even some where the whole thing was a simple misunderstanding and nobody was really wrong.

In any event, the huge numbers of folks here who are so damn sure they know what really happened and who is glorious and who is not is appalling. Why don't you wait for something other than a bunch of bs words from media types before you make up your mind?

9. You don't have to shout to be heard at DU.
Better improper punctuation than all caps, my friend.

8. Thanks. I agree with you.
This topic is so frustrating. It's not like we don't have much more important things to worry about that we can take time and pick apart who did/didn't do what to whom.

10. Thank you being a voice of sanity...
I have been startled by the number of people willing to come to an absolute conclusion about what did or did not happen. With no evidence. With no on the record statements.

Personally, I am prone to give Ms. McKinney the benefit of the doubt, but I have no idea what really happened between her and the officer, and will reserve final judgement until I do.

But that is clearly too difficult a task for many here.

I've been waiting for the torches and pitchforks to be passed around any second. :eyes:

12. You know, I am not sure what McKinney did or did not do.
But neither has my paranoia reached a level where I question the validity of everything I read in the papers. That being the case, I will neither condemn nor defend her until more evidence is presented to prove her guilt or innocence. I honestly fail to understand why people are making assumptions either way. It seems irrational.

14. I know this: Cheney shot a guy and was never charged.
Do you know that? Just making sure. McKinney supports two areas of interest that I support and she's done so at real expense: election integrity (form day 1) and access of 911 surviving families to the investigation process.

When they decided to make a big deal out of this, then I supported her. It's called the benefit of the doubt for a friend.

Who knows what happened? In the mean time, I'm not sitting around quietly watching the Republican media and Hill Republicans destroy here BEFORE we find out.

As to a tape, why don't they show it?

Whatever she did, you can be sure that the standards are much higher for her than others on the Hill.

16. Sure.....
.. I'm pretty much on your side as to thinking this is a hatchet job. But as for actions you can take, please fill me in. Getting into a screamfest on a message board is not helping Ms. McKinney.

I'm talking about heated post after heated post here. They aren't really accomplishing anything, everyone is merely engaging in speculation. I'm certainly not one to shy away from a heated post, I'll admit that. But I try to have something to go on first. We have NOTHING to go on right now.

If the video ever comes out, we'll have something tangible to base our opinion on. As of right now, we don't know much, and all we are hearing is second and third hand spin.

I don't think they have a case, or we'd have already SEEN the video. But I'm not going to climb up here and shout at everyone, because the fact is we don't know.

17. I'm with you on the need to avoid heated threads on this issue - 100%
You're right, show me the pictures...don't show them and I'll doubt the case. Who knows if they'll even tell us anything.

We're facing the end of global civilization as we know itin a few decades due to climate change, which may be irreversible and what are they doing on Capitol Hill, arresting MC's for perceived affronts and avoiding the real issues...EVERY SINGLE DAY. We are on a rudderless ship heading into the rapids. It's a shame really.

There are great issues which can unite the country and the world...we're talking about them, others are, but where's Congress? Oh, right...on a junket somewhere.

18. Liberal from Georgia here
Ms McKinney has a screw loose. Watching here in the state over the years she tends to scream race when anything doesn't go her way. I KNOW there is profiling and racism in this country. I KNOW it. Ms. McKinney exploit it to the max. If she hit a cop , pay the fine, do the time even a few days at most. Stop moaning about how she is the victim. I have been on a flight with here before and she even abuses airline attendants when they don't recognize her. She has more problems than a punch of a cop! She is a diva in her own mind, black, white, red , yellow , brown, whatever people; that act like McKinney need to be knocked down a notch or two. Cry Race...ridiculous. Hit a cop for asking you to stop and then placing a hand on your shoulder, is that racist? Hell no. all she had to do was show some id like we all do daly in many situations but McKinney the Diva can't be bothered with routine stuff like that. Just verbally assault people or in this case slug a cop. I hope she learns a lesson. We all have to be inconvenienced sometimes but it's no cool to be violent. Eat a Peach For Peace people!

19. From an ex-Georgian who WORKED WITH HER
The Cynthia McKinney you describe is the "press version" of a very caring, involved, outspoken human being.

I've spent days and days with this woman in the heat of an election campaign the night before and all day OF the election - when tempers are short, energy is high, and excitement fills the room. Not to mention the WEEKS before the election as we prepared.

Cynthia McKinney is the most calming influence in the room. While reports of disenfranchised voters flood the phones, McKinney simply dispatches the team she assembled to handle and investigate these matters. When voters outside her district call in with reports of vote malfeasance, she calls the proper representative and alerts her (D) teammates to the problems.

I don't even live in her district and she's handling a matter for me right now which involves a congressional inquiry.

One thing I'm absolutely certain of.........RedTail Wolf, whoever he/she is, has NEVER had direct contact with this woman and is spouting press clippings.
