I don't mind the DLC
I just want a voice equal to theirs.

I just want equal right to determine who is on our ballot as they have.

I just want the party to at least hear my voice.

I just want to flex my muscle.

I just want the chance to convince the people I'm right.

I just don't want to be taken for granted.

I just want our leaders to be accountable to me as well as the DLC.

I just don't want to be called a terrorist because I support a dem challenger over a dem incumbent.

But most of all: I want my share of the power back, and I want my brothers and sisters in this party to have their share too. The power belongs to each and every one of us.

This is a government of the people, by the people and for the people. The founders did not envision a government of party bosses who pick candidates for races in far away states. They did not envision political parties at all, but rather grass roots factions who all had their voice in Congress, even if none had a majority. See Federalist 10.

2. they are a centrist organization
they support the strategy of aligning themselves with independents and using fear to keep the dem base in line. they helped propel Clinton to power in 1992, back when they were still at least somewhat good.

They regularly attack democratic activists becuase we want our representatives to represent us. that gets in the way of the most important thing ever - "winning".

They bashed Howard Dean to no end for daring to oppose the war in Iraq.

7. the basic thing to know
is that the DLC supports the "meidan voter theorem". that basically says that if all voters are on a continuum from liberal to conservative, whoever wins the "median voter", the one in the very middle, they will inevtiably win all voters to the left (or right, depending on party) and will win the election.

Progessives like myself know that the median voter theory is bogus, we support a strategy (that was used by the Repugs to successfully put themselves in power) where we win by representing the base and attracting independents to our column by relating our positions to their values.

DLCers believe that supporting the views of the base alienates the median voter (because the median voter is obviously a conservative Bush supporter :eyes: ) and thus casues Dems to lose.

Thus the two sides are always squabbling.

8. OK
Yeah, I think I agree. I don't think Democrats need to be moderate in the upcoming elections. We need to go for the jugular. It's the only way to win.

Enough pussyfooting around the issues. * is clearly in the wrong.

9. I believe the DLCers are raising a ruckus now at DU because DailyKos,
Atrios, MyDD, and all other active progressive sites have told the DLCers they were no longer going to put up with their antics of trying to dominate the conversation.

DU is about the only place left where the DLCers try to throw their weight around demanding obedience to the party line.
