1. "Bully pulpit?" More like bullies in control of the pulpit.
Well, I don't like being bullied. :evilfrown:

2. the "pledge" is just nonsense and Dems should treat it as such
It's just the never-ending attempt at manipulating reality. I didn't think it was possible to cover Junior's ass more in light of ZERO Congressional oversight, but this is just too much. I think Dems should make a pledge to do that oversight vis a vis investigations. That's really what the Republicans fear and for good reason. But that's their problem. Dems simply cannot fall into yet another trap set by the bullying morans. I do hope Howard Dean takes this bull by the horns and teaches it how to act.

3. Wise words, indeed
The knee-jerk reaction to put down any Dem who calls for investigation instead of impeachment is just plain wrong, in my view. It presupposes guilt and demonstrates partisanship on an institutional level. We need to first get elected (on the outside chance the vote stealers are not so good and that's still possible). I dare say there are few, if any, elected Dems who would stand in the way of impeachment once the evidence is out there.

(The above was written by an impeachment hawk of the highest order - me.)

5. I agree with that, and...
... I'm hoping for impeachment doves to reciprocate. Don't assume that we hawks aren't reasonable about this. We're cool with our candidates being politic about it, but "off the table" should be "off the table."

7. Impeachment would be a reckoning.
America will never heal from the wounds inflicted by BushCo unless we take the steps to put things right, and first and foremost is accountability.

For the weak-kneed, nervous Nellies, I'd say advocating investigations now, but never committing to a final resolution. The investigations will provide hardcore, irrefutable evidence of heinous crimes perpetrated against America and Americans, and no one in their right mind could possibly consider anything short of impeachment fair or reasonable.

4. How many of these same pundits warned the GOP not to impeach Clinton?
The answer is that none of them did. Prior to the 1998 election, the punditry uttered not one peep about the possibility of a Republican House voting to impeach Clinton. Not one of the chattering classes 'warned' Republicans that impeaching Clinton had to be off the table. Not one pundit, not one politician (including our wimpy Dems) cautioned the GOP that voting to impeach Clinton might ne a bad idea.

And even after the electorate had spoken -- by throwing out several Republicans that year (in hopes of heading off the Republican lynch mob) -- the GOP still did what it WANTED to do -- which was to do all it could to destroy Clinton politically.

One of the most certrain ways to tell that the media is in the right-wing's pocket is to compare similar situations (Clinton possibly being impeached to Bush possibly being impeached) and note the reactipon and action of the press.

How many times have we heard from the punditocracy that we'd better not even think of impeaching Bush -- 100 or 200 times by now? And how often did we hear the same admonitions from the pundits when it was Clinton's neck on the block.

Not once. Not one time.

It's the dog that didn't bark -- the press that didn't notice.

6. Funny how that is, isn't it?
I've just started reading Eric Boehlert's "Lapdogs." Some pretty good insights into how the media fell into line behind Dubya.
