Big Dig overseer rewarded with Federal Highway post
WASHINGTON -- The Senate approved President Bush's nominee to head the Federal Highway Administration after four Democratic senators dropped their opposition to him.

Three of them had been holding out for money for specific state projects. That got worked out but I don't understand this-

And Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., said he opposed Capka because he questioned his competence. Capka oversaw the $14.6 billion Big Dig construction project in Boston. In a statement, Kerry said he changed his mind after talking to Capka.

Have the Big Dig troubles all been worked out? I'm far away from MA and all I've seen about it was that it was a real mess. Should Capka have been promoted?

Big Dig Yields Big Bucks

~snip~
Yet Bechtel fails to explain how the original price tag of $2.5 billion spiraled upwards every, until in 2003 it had hit a whopping $14.6 billion or $1.8 billion a mile, making it the world's most expensive highway.

  :sarcasm:
