Where is the worthy opposition?
Whenever we give even the slightest scrutiny to the right-wing's arguments, they topple like a house of cards.

DUer/blogger BobcatJH can't find a worthy debate opponent re: Ann Coulter.

Supposed conservative intellectual Christopher Hitchens purports to debunk similarities between Haditha and My Lai... and can't find the plate.

And it's "Kill Bill 3," as Jon Stewart makes mincemeat of Bill Bennett and Bill Kristol. And Bill O'Reilly just gives up the ghost and becomes the latest Iraq hawk down.

So, who are the conservative thinkers that can get the better of us? Yes, they can out-spend us, out media-control us, always out-lie us, and sometimes out-bully us. But is there one of them that can score some real points in a fair fight?

Seriously, who is the best of the best from the other side?

3. I just checked his latest piece
It's a retrospective about AIDS, not especially steeped in conservative bias: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/05/AR2006060501285.html

My major quibble is his selective critique of the early politcal and media handling of AIDS. He blames those who were too politically correct to make the gay community the prime focus for safe-sex campaigns. But he ignores the "silence=death" phase, when the Reagan administration and the press callously failed to rally concern about the disease (e.g., as a priority for research $$$, as well as for education), because its leading targets weren't June and Ward Cleaver.

I am pleased, though, to see him end with a positive statement about condom use as a preventer of AIDS. Other wingers dream of a world free from birth control, as well as from abortion, feminism, and homosexuals.

A quick scan of his other recent columns shows him not as routinely doctrinaire as many of his colleagues. But I am intriqued by his obvious distate for McCain, presumably because he's not conservative enough for him, which given McCain's ultra-high marks for right-wing voting is rather striking.

If anyone has been watching Will closely, what have you seen?
