Weekend Political Cartoon
Yesterday I saw a political cartoon in the local newspaper. This cartoon depicted the beginning of a fight between a military member and member of Al Quada. In the cartoon there was a refree between the two that was giving the rules like the refrees of boxing matches. In telling the rules to the American soldier the refree said, "No gouging, kicking, biting, punching, degrading, humiliating, questioning, interrogating, displaying, torturning, religious intolerance, or any cruel treatment and you must afford them all the judicial guarantees of the Geneva Convention." To the member of Al Qada the refree just said, "You can do whatever you want".

First, this person who wrote the cartoon went too far in trying to mock the rules of the Geneva Convention. The Geneva Convention in no way prevents interrogating and questioning. Second, the author of this cartoon may have been more acturate if the person had made the refree a military personnel or had a branch of the military on the refree's shirt in that the military is against Bush's policy of throwing the Geneva Convention out of the window. I just saw on the Air America Radio website that a group of military personnel from the Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force went to Congress to speak against Bush's Anti-Geneva Convention policies. Also, the military has been a leading opponent of Bush's Anti-Geneva Convention policies from the time he starting to espousing these policies.
