Media Matters petition: Hate has no place on the airwaves

Media Matters for America has taken the bull by the horns and started a petition to get hate-spewers like Ann Coulter, Melanie Morgan and Glenn Beck off the air. These people have absolutely nothing to offer and are somehow consistently allowed to do things like, in Coulter's most recent meltdowns, say that people like Congressman John Murtha (D-PA) should be "fragged" or that New York Times staff should be "executed."

Here's Media Matters:

"Recently, the major television networks have given a platform to conservative hate merchants like Ann Coulter, Glenn Beck, and Melanie Morgan.

"Coulter's column is distributed by Universal Press Syndicate, one of the country's largest syndicates. Beck was recently hired by CNN Headline News. Morgan broadcasts from a radio station owned by Disney. And all three -- and countless others like them -- are regularly given guest spots on cable-news networks.

"The fact that these right-wing pundits -- who have called for the execution of public officials and others -- are given a platform in the major media is unprecedented.

"We, the undersigned, urge the media to stop allowing these hate merchants to spread their venom and abuse. America deserves to hear honest, reasoned debate, not rants from professional hatemongers."

Join me and Media Matters in saying "no more" to this garbage from people who talk of decency but display so little themselves.

Please go here to sign the petition.

2. Not good...
Who will be the Hate-Police? Would you want some rightwinger deciding what the 'Left' can say?

4. Not a valid point, Sam, because...
There is not a level playing field in the corporate media when it comes to this kind of invective. If, for example, a liberal pundit went on CNN and suggested that a Republican Congressman should be killed, they would be yanked from the guest roster in a nanosecond. But these conservative troglodytes are allowed to do it over and over and over again. In the absence of balance, they should be yanked too.

10. If something is truly politically offensive then let
your opposition do it(say it) over and over again and hope it is seen or heard as broadly as possible. Right?

12. We're just consumers telling business what we want. Let the market...
...decide, right?

14. No, there is a limit...
And "politically offensive" to whom? All this hate is actually quite appealing to many; it isn't offensive to them in the least. As the policies of the right squeezes the life out of more working families, many will be looking for someone to blame, and some aren't particularly choosy about who it is. Whipping a mob into a violent frenzy isn't all that difficult to do.

The OP is right. Shut them down. As soon as I post this, I'm signing on. Not that I think it will have much impact, but at least I'll be able to look back and know that I tried to stop it as best I could.

9. I find it amusing that Sean Hannity freaks out over Ward Churchill
and his "little eichmans" comment yet he has no problem giving Ann Coulter a platform to spew her bile, even hosting a fucking book signing event for her in New Jersey.

16. Childlike Freepers
How old are they? Maybe 8 years old?
Like little kids who scream, "Poo-poo pee-pee!" and then run off giggling about it.

Why are these people so immature?
