Dems Quick to Use Bush’s Stem Cell Veto on the Campaign Trail
Bush is scheduled to be in Cherry Hills Village, Colo., on Friday to raise money for Republican candidate Rick O’Donnell.....

The $1,000-per-plate dinner will generate at least $550,000 for O’Donnell, who supported Bush’s July 19 veto of a bill (HR 810) that would have removed existing constraints on federal funding of embryonic research.

Democrats, who think the stem cell research veto will be unpopular with voters, plan to mark Bush’s visit with a news conference in nearby Denver......

Although one recent nationwide poll found 70 percent of respondents expressing support for embryonic stem cell research, Republicans say the issue will not be decisive in close races this fall.
...
“There are eight or nine districts where you have candidates on either side of this where it plays,” said Emanuel, mentioning the 6th districts of Illinois and Pennsylvania, as well as tight races in New Jersey, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

1. Of course the repukes don't think stem cell research
will be decisive in races this fall! They're hoping the decisive issues are flag burning, gay marriage and whether or not "under God" is allowed in the Pledge of Allegiance! You know...the important stuff! :sarcasm:

2. I don't think this issue
will be decisive. At heart (from the conservative side, anyway) it is simply a small part of their anti-abortion agenda. Yeah, Iknow, I know. But that is how they see it.

However, it is a good issue for Dems to push. Not decisive, no, but could influence some.
