I'll admit, a man in drag is hardly rare.

But what if that man is the former mayor of America's most emblematic city?



However a little googling reveals that Rudy in heels is a pretty common sight.



So Rude looks like a lady. So what? According to a recent Gallup poll, 73 percent of Republicans favor Giuliani as their 2008 presidential contender.

But is that really true? The images above turned up on more conservative sites than liberal ones - for example, www.jesus-is-savior.com (Warning! Batshit-crazy site! Click with care!). All of them condemn Giuliani for his pro-gay, pro-choice, pro-gun control agenda.

And while that may be an extreme example, no less of a conservative standard-bearer than The National Review features Rudy in all his glam glory on the cover of their current issue.



Written by "Burn-Katie-Burn" O'Beirne, the synopsis suggests that what plays in NYC often closes on opening night across the rest of the country. I don't subscribe to the National Repuke so I can't tell you more.

But really, what were those Gallup respondents smoking? And could the GOP seriously think that Luntz, Rove et al will be able to turn around voters' perceptions of Rudy as a liberal and a libertine? He would have to appear at every house of worship in the country, from megachurches to storefront meeting halls, to overcome his image. He would have to choose James Dobson himself as his running mate. Okay, sorry I said that. It could happen.

But I'm not complaining. No matter what they try, we'll always have the pictures that say a thousand words.
