Florida Gov: Davis (D) beats Gallagher (R), does not beat Crist (R)
August 1, 2006

Charlie Crist (R) 47%
Jim Davis (R) 42%

Tom Gallagher (R) 41%
Jim Davis (D) 44%

Charlie Crist (R) 48%
Rod Smith (D) 35%

Tom Gallagher (R) 45%
Rod Smith (D) 40%

In the sunshine state's competitive gubernatorial contest, Republican
Attorney General Charlie Crist is still polling better against two Democrats than is Republican State Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher. But the latest Rasmussen Reports election poll shows Democratic Congressman Jim Davis gaining ground.

Our June 22 survey indicated that Crist, the best known of the candidates, had carved out a double-digit advantage over both Congressman Davis and State Senator Democrat Rod Smith. At that time, Gallagher led Davis by four points, Smith by eight.

In the new poll, Crist leads Davis among likely voters by only five points, 47% to 42%, while leading Smith 48% to 35%. Thus Crist's lead over Smith has widened slightly even as he loses ground to Davis.

6. Floridians like Jeb, at least the swing voters do
He's not his brother, and can put words together in a intelligible manner. And, whether we are talking about his administration or Chiles' both handled hurricane emergencies well (I would think that is important when governor of Florida) and managed state government well. That's what non partisan voters look at, and they are who decides elections.

2. polling pointless. election will be fixed. D win not win.
the last move by jeb and his cronies was to make it illegal to use the paper trail in a recount.
so whatever the tabulator says, goes.
even in optical scan counties where there is a 100% paper trail.

the fix, the coverup, codifying it into law.

7. Interesting numbers
Last poll I saw had Smith faring slightly better than Davis against Crist. Rasmussen has it dramatically opposite.

This is somewhat like the Nevada gov race, a contentious Democratic primary with a questionmark who would have the best chance to win the general election, with the Republican favored but not overwhelmingly in both states. Our problem in both states is the state economies have been significantly above the national economy in recent years, so the voters may be reluctant to change parties.
