Why, exactly, did we go into Iraq?
Their eyes glaze over, they struggle, they protest - "it doesn't matter WHY," they whine, "it just matters, where do we go from here. . ."
WRONG! You can't f!@#king explain why we invaded a country at low risk to us while we ignored 2 ( count them 2) nations that were far more threatening (Iran and N. Korea) AND allowed Ben Laden to escape AND allowed the Taliban to re-establish in Afghanistan, and you don't want to talk about WHY?!!!!
And, it is a multiple choice question: A. Al Qaida and the link to the WOT B. WMDs that were a direct and immediate threat to the US C. To free the world from brutal dictator ( they put the names of all the brutal dictators in the world in a drum, and they had Condi draw the name, and it was Saddam) D. To bring democracy to the Middle East (even though they suppress the rights of women, are tribal, have waged genocidal purges against each other and we think that they just need a little purple ink to make life all better) E. Oil/Money
Not sure that I can see a winning answer in that group.
Some of you might pose the question - but we can't ask that question of our own party. That's part of my point. The only ones who can be proud of their initial response to this imbroglio are : Feingold and Kucinich (apologies to anyone I didn't name) also Gore. The rest of them should look right into the camera and say,
"I was swept along with the rest of the country on a tidal wave of patriotism and believed the cherry-picked intelligence the administration used to justify this illegal act of war. I regret my vote. I will be more vigilant in the future to ask the hard questions and make the wise choices as to where to deploy our brave troops. No one has died in vain. We have a professional army that knows that they go where the leaders of this country send them. It is up to the leaders to honor their lives and put them at risk ONLY when that is the only choice left."
If anyone else wants to assume a mantle of guilt - it should be the M$M who fulfilled their roles as cheerleaders admirably.
