If we had a similar level of discourse about blacks, it would stand out as a key trend to me. Even if the MAJORITY of posts didn't do it, if it was clearly tolerated here, I would have the same awareness of it as an issue.

I felt the same way about some of the immigration threads, when some here were veering dangerously toward nationalism, and a "let 'em starve, it ain't my problem" attitude.

It's one of those things ... it doesn't take much racism, sexism, etc. to be "noticeable" as a culture.

Edit to add: I'm not sure that the majority of DUers felt that way on the immigration issue, but it was noticeable as a relatively mainstream viewpoint here.
