White House Upbeat About GOP Prospects
Self-Assurance of Bush, Rove and Others Is Not Shared by Many in the Party

By Michael Abramowitz
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, October 15, 2006; Page A04

Amid widespread panic in the Republican establishment about the coming midterm elections, there are two people whose confidence about GOP prospects strikes even their closest allies as almost inexplicably upbeat: President Bush and his top political adviser, Karl Rove.

Some Republicans on Capitol Hill are bracing for losses of 25 House seats or more. But party operatives say Rove is predicting that, at worst, Republicans will lose only 8 to 10 seats -- shy of the 15-seat threshold that would cede control to Democrats for the first time since the 1994 elections and probably hobble the balance of Bush's second term

1. Hacked Machines
Must be because they know the results of the machines before people vote. We better make sure that they are not pre-programmed.

4. What else would they say?
"We are totally hosed; we're hopelessly behind in the polls because you've all finally figured out that our party is mostly comprised of crooks, perverts, liars and religious fanatics whose desperate determination to hang on to power has cost the lives of thousands of people, looted the treasury, destroyed our country's reputation and generally fucked you over. We know you're going to vote our sorry asses out of office, but we're going to pretend everything's rosy, just like we've been pretending the Iraq debacle is a bed of fucking roses, because nobody wants to vote for losers."

7. It reminds me of
Baghdad Bob. On the eve of destruction telling the people of Iraq and the world everything was going great. Look out the window.

8. Well, what else can they do?
If they looked as panicked as the rest of the party does, they'd be giving us a gift.....

And they are not about to do that.

Rremember how Delay looked when his booking picture was taken? He was smiling as though nothing was wrong. The same thing is going on with Rove and *.

The Titanic analogy is a good one, IMHO.
