Who's extreme?
Christie Todd Whitman came to my state to campaign for repub candidates. She was quoted in the local paper as saying:

"It's too important for people to understand that the extremes are controlling the dialogue in both parties"

Pardon me? Extremes in both parties? Speak for your own party. It's clearly dominated by the far, far right. What extremes is she talking about among Democrats? Oh, maybe it's Democrats voting against torture and to retain habeus corpus. Yeh that's the ticket. There go those extremist Democrats again. Voting in favor of the Bill of Rights. :sarcasm:

Seems to be modus operandi for repukes. Smear Democrats with everything they are guilty of (i.e., Foleygate: painting Democrats as involved in the cover-up too; Abramoff: painting Democrats as taking money too).

1. Did the reporters ask her for examples of "extreme" Democrats?
Personally, I think that the Democrats are extreme - extremely right-wing, these days. The whole Democratic Party has been pushed extremely right. This is extremely distressing to me and many other Democrats.

2. It was a very short article
no detail or follow-up, just the quotation at the end of the article. A visit from John Kerry rated a much longer article.

I agree with you that lots of Democrats in Congress (not all) have been pushed rightward. They are ideologically the equivalent of the old traditional repub party and unfortunately true liberals/progressives are far fewer in number.

3. Are there any 'extreme' Democrats?
It seems to me from an outside perspective that most Democrats are really moderate by the standards of other countries. E.g. most would probably be members of centre parties rather than left-wing parties in Europaean countries. Maybe there are some extremely left-wing ones - but who?
