Nancy Pelosi's scary, radical agenda....NOT
Edited on Sat Nov-04-06 08:52 PM by brg5001
So many commentators have chosen to ignore Nancy Pelosi's very simple plan for our country, and instead have decided to stick with their favorite template. That's where they define the 66-year-old grandmother as some sort of fire-breathing, bra-burning, Castro-embracing leftist who represents "San Francisco" values and not "Our" values. It's a convenient way to whip up hysteria and get the Red State set a-tremblin', without having to actually examine any facts. Sean Insanity raises the spectre of a Pelosi-led House as if it were a train wreck in a meteor shower during an earthquake in the eye of a hurricane, and the indolent, clueless MSM follow right along. It's easier than thinking, or reading, or actually calling Rep. Pelosi to ask HER if she's really all that radical.

As we head into the homestretch, please show your conservative friends this post. Explain calmly to them that Rep. Pelosi is not planning to replace the American flag with a hammer and sickle or turn Wal-Marts into bathhouses.

I know, it's shocking news. She's really, honestly not going to dismantle "LIFE AS WE KNOW IT." She's actually a common-sense, very mainstream political figure. Here (again) is her plan for the first 100 hours of Democratic control of Congress. And, speaking of "Democratic" control, when you email this to your conservative friends, can you please remind them of how stupid it sounds for their leaders to refer to the "Democrat Party"?? They sound like hayseeds. You'd think by now that they'd recognize that adopting the rhetoric of an ignorant dumbass makes one sound, well, like a dumbass. But I digress.
------start here-----
NANCY PELOSI'S RADICAL, RABID, RAVING LEFTIST FIRST 100 HOURS. (Originally an AP story on Friday, October 6, 2006):

Day One: Put new rules in place to "break the link between lobbyists and legislation."

Day Two: Enact all the recommendations made by the commission that investigated the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Time remaining until 100 hours: Raise the minimum wage to $7.25 an hour, maybe in one step. Cut the interest rate on student loans in half. Allow the government to negotiate directly with the pharmaceutical companies for lower drug prices for Medicare patients.

Broaden the types of stem cell research allowed with federal funds -- "I hope with a veto-proof majority," she added in an AP interview.

All the days after that: "Pay as you go," meaning no increasing the deficit, whether the issue is middle class tax relief, health care or some other priority.

To do that, she said, Bush-era tax cuts would have to be rolled back for those above "a certain level." She mentioned annual incomes of $250,000 or $300,000 a year and higher, and said tax rates for those individuals might revert to those of the Clinton era. Details will have to be worked out, she emphasized.

"We believe in the marketplace," Pelosi said of Democrats, then drew a contrast with Republicans. "They have only rewarded wealth, not work. We must share the benefits of our wealth" beyond the privileged few, she added.
----end of AP story--
:wow: :wow: Really, really radical and scary. Not.

2. Ms. Peloci is no friend of Democracy....she deserves no speakership
We need men like Rep. Murtha and Rep. Kusanich at the helm of speakership....and not someone who shines as dearest-speaker in the media.

3. I was just pointing out that her plans are reasonable
The point that I was making is that she is so often demonized as some sort of maniac, but her policies are mainstream and certainly nothing to fear. Those policies should win the support of any Democrat. That's my only point. I wasn't looking at who would make the best House Speaker...

4. "They have only rewarded wealth, not work"
So true.

I wonder what the "new rules" will be to "break the link" between lobbyists and legislation. I have to say I'm skeptical about that one.

6. Our local Dem candidate has a good idea
He says to shut down the whole lobbying apparatus by stopping acceptance of any kind of gratuity. Not even coffee! I don't think that there's any other way to really get lobbyists out of the picture.

8. I believe she should be replaced
In the meantime we need to attack Hastert. He is corrupt and hates the middle class. Why does our "out of the mainstream" hurt us but theirs doesn't? I'm sick of this BS. Let's get after it and rip Hastert apart and in the meantime we should select a speaker that more reflects mainstream America.
