If Possible, Avoid Peak Voting Periods
The title pretty much says it all, but to elaborate anyway, if you have all day to vote, try to avoid the lunch periods from 11-2, and vote from about 2-3:30, when most people are at work. This will make it easier for you, and for others who vote before work, or on their lunch hours. Of course if you are taking off work to vote, then you could take these time periods off too. One of the prime tactics used in Ohio was to put less voting machines in Democratic districts, so this will help that problem a bit.

1. Good plan.
I'll be heading out after 2, then, since I won't make it before 11. My polling place has always been deserted for all but the last presidential election, where the wait was many hours last time (Columbus Ohio, wouldn't you know), so I'll be curious if it's crowded this time, or empty yet again.
