Chimpy at Medal of Honor ceremony: "Navy.. I mean Marines... Didn't mean to insult ya."
He said "Navy" when he meant to say "Marines" and then corrected himself quipping, "Didn't mean to insult ya!" Well, he kinda just insulted everybody in the Navy. Nice. :eyes:

2. Typical crazy king, can't honor someone without insulting someone else.
"Any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worhwhile...can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction. 'I served in the United States Navy'." President John F. Kennedy

Those were the days of real statesmen.

3. Technically, the Marines are part of the Naval Service.
The Commandant of the Marine Corps reports to the Sec. of the Navy.
Marines are given Navy decorations as well as their own and general decorations. The Navy serves as medics to their Marines in the field.
A citation for a Marine will say something along the lines of "in the finest traditions of the US Marine Corps and the Naval Service."
Marines serve as guards on Navy ships and naval installations.

You insult the entire armed service by being its CinC.

15. Jack Jacobs, an MSNBC military analyst,
himself a Medal of Honor winner was quite critical.

He said the MOH is presented in a private ceremony, & paraphrasing him, he thought it was political & tacky of Bush.

9. Well, the Navy and the Marine Corps have this in common...
They both think the Air National Guard are a bunch of lightweights.
John
Of course, we in the regular Army thought they were ALL a bit silly.

You zoomies sure are sensitive. Isn't there a paper pump you could be manning somewhere?
John
Smart enough to graduate GED two years early. Still dumb enough to join the Army.

16. On his mind
quite possibly, because the idiot is so simple, is the upcoming total reliance on the Navy for the Iran operation. He feels nothing at all for the tools or photo ops and this also comes across with his calculating pre-occupations.

If the Navy "lets him down" he would move on to the next tools, like the one he originally deserted, but has the glorious capacity of killing from afar with really big bombs. He would prefer robots and missiles
of course. He doesn't trust people in general.

12. Only insulting if he hadn't made the correction.
He didn't insult the Navy by correcting himself, he only did so when he called the Marines "the Navy". Each branch of the military takes seriously being properly identified and also do not like others being improperly identified as them. Bit of a pride and rivalry thing.

Kinda side note, if you are around the military enough you will find all the branches hate "soldiers" being used as a generic term. They are soldiers, airmen, sailors, and Marines. If you pay attention you will notice the military related talking heads and spokespeople etc out there rattling off the four sometimes when referring to all branches.

17. nice try
You are implying it was only an insult because if mis-identification and because he corrected himself it is OK. Wrong, he was taking a jab at the Navy by saying "didn't mean to insult ya" If he wasn't, you are ready to give him a pass on a botched joke. Did you give Kerry a free pass when he claimed he botched his?

21. Thank you
This was a ceremony to present the Medal of Honor. It must be conducted with dignity. It wasn't the time or place to make a smarmy 'joke'.

Edited on Fri Jan-12-07 08:32 AM by SpiralHawk
"I think I deserve a pass on this boner. I mean, I don't know shit about the military, but I am an expert on cheerleading, and on coke sniffing. So cut me some slack. Again."

22. Anybody can make a mistake, but Chimpy turns it into an "issue" by taking the slap happy fratboy
approach. All he had to say was "Excuse me, I maeant to say Marines." No need for the gratuitous insult of the Navy.
