I feel like doing a little math. I've been looking on Wiki and the DNC website, but no luck so far.

1. I think it varies state to state..
For example.. when we caucus in Anchorage, the number of delegates are selected by the population of each precinct.

Getting selected as an area delegate is SIMPLE.. Getting selected as a National Convention Delegate is much more difficult!!

Sounds like it may be the same just about everywhere..

Here's what they're saying about it in Colorado for example:

http://www.coloradoconfidential.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=1279

This site has a little more info and a few more >> http://people.howstuffworks.com/question721.htm

BTW.. If anyone wants the info on volunteering at the 2008 Democratic Convention, the application form is now up on the official website! >> http://www.denverconvention2008.com/

2. Yes, in my state,
the number of delegates your precinct has to the senatorial district convention is determined by the number of people in your precinct that voted for the democratic candidate for governor in the last election.

Then, from your senatorial district to state is proportional to this yet again.

But I don't know about from state to national. Hm, maybe I'll go check the party handbook, good idea!

5. Yes, thanks.
Their selection process is a lot like ours. I was hoping for just numbers, I guess... Want to know when the earliest date is that someone can lock in the nom....

6. Do you mean the convention or the Dem national Committee?

I assume you mean the convention.

This site has information but I know the number for Maine is incorrect. I don't know how accurate the other states are.

http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P08/D-Alloc.phtml

It's a complicated formula based on previous vote totals and then added to by number of "super delegates" that vary by state.

7. Yes, the convention.
I want to do the math to figure out how many total delegates there are and how "frontloaded" the primaries are... in other words, at what point in time will a majority of delegates be allocated already.

Haha. That site is exactly what I am looking for, if it is right. Thanks!

8. Maine is only off by one

I think most are pretty close...just not exact.

And states may get more delegates if they move their primary/caucus into April, May, or June.
