okay, sister and brother DU'ers- is it just me, or is something seriously amiss here?

In listening to patrick last night, I once again heard something along the lines of "it's time the iraqis stood up and took over" and, frankly, it bugs the HELL out of me. patrick, of course, isn't the only one saying this. but every time I hear it, I want to scream, to remind these people (even the ones supposedly on OUR side, on the soldiers' side, on the iraqis' side) that IRAQIS did NOT ask for us to come and invade them, they did NOT ask us to disband their army and security forces, they did NOT ask us to invite terrorists into the playground, they did NOT ask us to occupy their country, so, demanding that they "STEP UP" to deall with the mess WE made strikes me as disgusting in the extreme. there seems to be a kind of subtext that the iraqis are somehow shirking THEIR responsibilities, when WE are the ones who have created this nightmare, and I find it offensive.

am I off the mark here? or am I missing something? this kind of garbage I expect from the braindead reichers, NOT from our side.

1. Right on mark teammate
bush lied us into a war that fucked up their country and now we expect them to make everything alright. There is no doubt now, that IRAQ WAS BETTER OFF WITH HUSSEIN IN POWER. Wow, won't the free republic member's who wave their flags and blather on about how they support the troops just love that (fact!!) And to think just 8 years ago bush was against nation building.

5. Nation Building
Based on observing GWB's magnificent job in Iraq, it's safe to say he's still against nation building!

2. I agree that we, alone, are responsible for the mess in Iraq. But, in all fairness to Rep.
Murphy, they have to say that the Iraqis need to step up to the plate, first because we'll never get out if they don't and second, in might swing some Repubs over to an exit plan.

3. It's almost as if they're leaving out the very obvious fact that we started this mess.
Or, rather, George Bush and the Neocons started it.

But at this point, we can't go back and undo what's been done, although at this point I'm certain the vast majority of Americans would if they could.

Since we got them into this mess, it's only appropriate that we don't dump the mess we created on them, but they must also take more responsibility for their country, which they aren't doing. It's time for them to step up to the plate and play ball.

But I agree with what you're saying: we need to remind people at the same time that this was an optional war the Bush lied to start. It's his mess, and it's the Republican's mess. They created it, they own it. But the Iraqis need to get the show on the road and get their country under control.

4. Don't confuse the language of the Radical RW with its policies.
It seemed to me Murphy was offering an exit plan cloaked in language designed not to make RWers' heads explode.

6. Colin's Doctrine
was the charmingly named "Pottery Barn Doctrine", where; "You break it, you bought it."

I guess the point is we're at the stage where the shop owner has to come over with a sweeper and garbage can for us to get rid of the busted merchandise.

It's time for the USA to sweep up, pay for damages and let shopkeeper Iraq go about it's business.

I think the flaw in the analogy is that the shopkeeper may not consist of ethic factions that have been at odds for over a thousand years. The second logic flaw is that the Pottery Barn in question didn't loose over a million browsing customer lives as a result of "collateral damage" via a broken flower vase or drinking glass?
