N.Y. Police Spied Broadly Before G.O.P. Convention......
"For at least a year before the 2004 Republican National Convention, teams of undercover New York City police officers traveled to cities across the country, Canada and Europe to conduct covert observations of people who planned to protest at the convention, according to police records and interviews."

From Albuquerque to Montreal, San Francisco to Miami, undercover New York police officers attended meetings of political groups, posing as sympathizers or fellow activists, the records show. They made friends, shared meals, swapped e-mail messages and then filed daily reports with the department’s Intelligence Division. Other investigators mined Internet sites and chat rooms.

2. That doesn't surprise me. I was much more surprised that the Pubs
decided to hold their convention in NY! I know if I werethe Mayor, I'd have investigators doing their best to make sure nobody was going to harm a Prez or a candidate in MY TOWN!

4. Not good. But...
That rent-a-crowd bunch who can not (or will not) protest peacefully and instead does things like throw marbles under police horses and pushes down barricades, gives the bastards all the excuse they need and more to carry out this kind of surveillance.

If these people are "Ours" we should identify them and hold them up saying "These are no US" And if they're "Theirs" then rip those balaclavas off and expose the GOP staffers sent out to give us a bad name.

Basically the message should be: If you feel you have to hide your face (for whatever reason) then you are not welcome to march. Show your face or show your back.

6. "Show your face or show your back"... Really?
In the face of all evidence that the police have been targeting people, the FBI has been illegally wiretapping people, the GOP have been targetting voters with disenfrachisement, the IRS probably targets people, etc, fucking etc.... In the face of ALL THAT abuse of power, you choose to call out people who cover their faces at rallies to protect their identities?

Man, talk about blaming the victim.

7. When I see these "victims" wearing balaclavas or masks...
...doing despicable things like tossing marbles under horses or attempting to make their point through the deliberate destruction of property then damned right I want their faces exposed. Like I already said, they're either "plants" put there to disrupt and discredit us, or they're anarchistic arseholes I DON'T want on "MY side".

Either way, I want their faces up on the TV and broadcast across the Web. I want those faces so recogniable that they are met with a fist in every slightly liberal establishment across the land.

If the "jackboot crowd" was really serious about handing out the "punishments" you imply, then the cops could very easily "detain" anyone hiding their face, take a peek in their wallets and KKKarl and his mates could start making their lives an "officially orchestrated" misery.
