A DLC campaign to rid the Democratic Party of lefties?
Is it me or does there seem to be an effort by the pro-Hillary, DLC people to silence and ultimately rid the Democratic Party of the so-called "radical fringe". It isn't enough to be a centrist al a Howard Dean anymore. In fact, those that are considered true centrists but don't tow the DLC line are targeted. I notice it by how vitriolic some people have become on DU. Those who back Kucinich or want Gore to run are automatically criticized and chided for their choices. Even the Obama people are getting railed for backing their guy. It is worse than it was at the start of the 2004 campaign.

The only thing I can come with up as a reason for this, is because the DLC are bringing in more people on to DU and other Democratic or progressive forums to push Hillary on to us and god help you if you disagree with her. But it is more than that, I think the DLC is trying to make more of an effort to ultimately rid the Democatic Party of those on the left. Don't be surprised if Dennis Kucinich finds his Congressional seat being challenged by some DLC-driven candidate one of these days.

It is just a hunch but I must ask fellow progressives and lefties on here. Are you beginning to feel a little bit pushed out?

John

1. Yeah, and Christians in the U.S. are persecuted too...
Because people disagree with them sometimes...

Yes the poor put upon 90% of liberal DU'ers are upset that 10% of us don't genuflect at every liberal utterance...

Just another example of where the far left and far right converge...they get just apoplectic when people don't agree with them 100% of the time...

2. Couple things

First, I don't believe the DLC (or any other major political organization) has concerted, organized efforts to send their people to Internet forums to somehow sabotage the discourse. I think even the DLC's got better things to do than that.

Second, I soooooo disagree that this is worse than 2004. This isn't even close to the vitriol that was spewed during the 2004 primary season.

3. A 50 buck donation can't buy you love. A 5000wk ad buy gets LOTS of love.

That's how the newspaper industry changed. It went from informing readers for their small subscription fees, to joining and protecting the agenda of its corporate advertisers who were paying the really big dollars that paid the stockholders.

But, when it comes down to it, there is more room for the left on places like DU than there is in the corporate media, and THAT is something to be thankful for.

4. The DLC is waning. Hillary is their last great white hope
but even she won't be able to stop the progressive movement that wants to rein in corporate greed. The freshmen Democrats in Congress are mostly populists and "fair" traders and more like them will enter congress in 2008. Also, the American people overwhelmingly oppose "Free" trade and the outsourcing of their jobs. So if Hillary wins the whole thing, she will not be able to stop Dean's 50 State Strategy nor support "free" trade.

5. Many of us have issues with the DLC . . .
Which seems, by turns, feckless, clueless, gutless, and spiritless . . .

But sending operatives to purge DU?

Frankly, my dear, I'm pretty sure they don't give a damn.

Look around you. Do you see yourself surrounded by the movers and shakers of the Dem party? No, more like political junkies of mostly indifferent influence -- We The People, in other words -- about whom the DLC (and the RNC for that matter) don't give a rat's ass until you begin counting into the millions.

DU is interesting, infuriating, educational, entertaining . . . but influential it ain't.

7. The only requirement to join the DLC is $$$ -- and who has money?
The Republican GOP, and their corporate/political front groups.

8. Definition of a "leftie" or a "true progressive" - someone who is paying attention
Labels are used to intentionally divide, distract, disempower and exclude.

They are used by both parties, particularly in Washington.

When anyone tries to label us for asking pertinent questions, we are hitting the nerve of truth. We are paying attention.

9. LOL. Oh the hypocrisy!
The DLC and Hillary are slammed here every single day with negative to positive threads running about 10 to 1. Shit some of the new ones were even started by yourself.

10. As one of the not-so-lefties... I think I understand.
I've been here off and on for close to 5 years now. TRUST ME, the primaries of 2003-04 were very unpleasant here.

However, it is very real that some of us who come to DU aren't necessarily progressive. Many of us are here because we despise the president, despise the war, despise corporate greed, long for nationalized health care, and don't know where else to go. We don't really mean to be disruptive, but sometimes, if it seems as though the left is claiming ownership of the party, we'll speak up in disagreement. Left, center and right all exist, and not always peacefully, within the Democratic party.

Whenever November elections roll around, DU rallies to its Democratic candidates. But we're not there yet. We're at the PRE-primaries, and the noise levels are beginning to rise; our true natures come forward. Plug up your ears as the left, center and right all begin to display loud, healthy cyber-lungs. There will be band-wagon upon bandwagon. And there will be arguing. LOTS of arguing. And that's the reality of DU. During the presidential primaries, this is a very contentious place to be. Give it a 4-6 more months and it will get absolutely crazy, and the moderators will be working over-time and looking around for "seasonal help". From August 2007-August 2008, this will be a rough place.

Grab your armor and earplugs and get ready for the ride.

11. What I don't get is they never really define
what's radical about many of us. I would prefer that they call republicans radical and/or fringe.
