Did Speaker Pelosi avert war with Iran by screwing up Bushco's plans?
Edited on Sat Apr-07-07 08:12 PM by Husb2Sparkly
This is the pure, unadulterated, unsupported, wild-assed speculation of a demented clown (me).

Nancy Pelosi went to Syria and spoke with Assad. Shortly thereafter, the British sailors and Marines get released. That's all public knowledge. No connection between Speaker Pelosi's visit and the Iranians' decision to release their captives has been documented. Given all the facts out there right now, we can only conclude the two events were simply coincidental.

But then there's this story, posted (by my wife, as it happens - and also a coincidence to this post of mine) in LBN:

US Offered to Scare Iran

Did Speaker Pelosi's visit somehow disrupt the flow of the plans laid by Bushco to inflame the region based on the capture of the Brits?

Did Speaker Pelosi suggest to the Syrians (and through them, the Iranians) that they need only hold off until the Democrats get back in power in 2008 for them to receive not preferential, but at the very least, fair treatment by the US?

Again, this is ALL speculation and the speculation is mine entirely.

Edit to correct some BAD spelling errors.

5. Fits pitched because some congressional reps (DEM & GOP) got info
first-hand instead of through the mumbo-jumbo-cheney-hawk-slanted-intell-Wurlitzer.

Hard to sell lies when that many Congressmen get face time with the actual players in the region.

2. Another coincidence?
From the same AFP article:

On March 20, three days before the 15 British marines were seized at gunpoint in the Gulf, a second US aircraft carrier group arrived in the region.

Just sayin'. :tinfoilhat:

3. I think Tony Blair's calm response to the situation probably did as much
to derail any plans Bushco had for a strike. It would be very hard to sell the U.S. attacking Iran over the captured Brits if England wasn't ready to start dropping bombs right away. Not to mention, that a violent response from Bush would have killed the captives - and not helped the U.S.'s increasingly strained relationship with nearly the only ally left.

4. Fair Play
Didn't the repugs pull the same shit with the Ayatollah during the Iran hostage crisis.
Does weapons for prisoners ring a bell?
How about Iran/Contra Gate?
Reagan inauguration on day of hostage release!
Kissinger started it when he went over to the dark side with Nixon.
If Speaker Pelosi did indeed tell the Syrians that things will go better with the Democrats, she was telling the truth. If she did interrupt plans of the evil empire she is a true hero and saint.

8. Agree and Blair helped, he asked Bush to butt out completely
and to tamp down his fiery rhetoric calling them hostages

6. I must admit I had that same thought when
I heard Bashar Assayd was active in obtaining
the release of the British Sailors. Suppose
I will continue to wonder.

7. What I'm wondering is: did the US ask the Brits to meet them at the spot they got picked up
for being in disputed waters? Did Cheney have the Brits set up to be captured so they might get some excuse to pound Iran from 45,000 feet?
