Dennis Kucinich's 2004 presidential campaign will have to repay the federal government $137,358 for using federal matching funds for campaign purposes when he was ineligible to do so, and for failing to adequately document small contributions received at several "pass the hat" type fundraising events, the Federal Elections Commission decided today.

The unanimous FEC decision came after a routine audit of Kucinich's campaign finance reports showed that Kucinich used federal matching funds for campaign purposes after March 4, 2004, when poor showings in several consecutive primaries disqualified him from campaigning with money he'd already received from the federal government.

"Most campaigns end up having to repay some public funds," said FEC spokesman Bob Biersack, adding that Kucinich could have used the federal money for purposes other than campaigning, like shutting down his campaign offices.

Even though he trailed in every 2004 primary, the FEC found that Kucinich continued to use federal money for campaigning until the Democratic party officially made John Kerry its presidential candidate on July 29, 2004. After March 4, the law allowed him to use only privately collected money for campaign purposes.

by the campaigns themselves. THe FEC reports are due on the 15th...any numbers prior to that are just campaign chest-thumping.

10. I think that the MSM have

more or less "anointed" HRC, Obama and Edwards by placing a large emphasis on the big money they have raised. The staggering amounts of money are almost laughable, until I realize how out-of-whack each election cycle gets as seen by the people who are just trying to raise their families in a decent and loving manner.

Having liked the general Kucinich message since first reading the full conceptual framework of the Department of Peace long ago, I believe he will have ample opportunity to reach American minds and hearts once we get into autumn.

I don't care how much $ he or anyone else will have accumulated come 4/15.

The brand of politics Cong. Kucinich practices is vilified by some walks of life in our country 'cause it's main theme centers on speaking the unvarnished truth, IMO.

To me, people who ridicule him have either: (a) not delved deep enough into his personal and political history; or (b) know with crystal clarity where he wants to guide the nation, so state their
flat-out opposition by hurling petty abuse which has zero to do with his creative and principled stands on vital issues affecting us all (middle-class on down). I'm guessing that there are other reasons, too, like some prefer a candidate who most fits their view of who the next Dem candidate should be. I respect that notion and want to hear more about their platforms, but I cannot understand mean-spiritedness coming from a few DU posters when Dennis Kucinich is being discussed.

I'm not dwelling these days on how 11/'08 will play out. My focus now is on what happens in Congress after the Spring recess. I believe their return is on 4/16, with AG Gonzales in the hot seat on Tuesday, the 17th.

I don't believe that we have the luxury of rudely jousting with one another on inconsequential matters when the wayward juggernaut that is the * admin wreaks havoc all over Earth.
