THE HARRIS POLL

Clinton Tops Obama in Harris Poll,
Widens Lead From Five to 13 Points

THE WALL STREET JOURNAL ONLINE
May 16, 2007

After showing signs of slipping support in recent months, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton widened her lead in May against Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, her top rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, Harris Interactive's latest survey shows.

Among 1,022 adults who said they expect to vote in a Democratic primary or caucus, 40% said they would be most likely to vote for Mrs. Clinton. That was up from 37% in April and put her 13 percentage points ahead of Mr. Obama. He drew the support of 27% of support from the same pool of respondents in May, the survey said.

The new Harris poll also suggests that former Vice President Al Gore, who is not officially in the race, still commands significant support among Democratic voters. Of those surveyed, 13% indicated they would be most likely to vote for Mr. Gore, putting him ahead of former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards -- a declared 2008 candidate and the 2004 Democratic vice presidential nominee. Support for Mr. Edwards has slipped, with 12% now answering that they would be most likely to vote for him, down from 14% in April.

1. The consistency of her support in these polls...
As well as the recent Marist poll that also gauged the commitment of those saying they would vote for her, shows that not only is she in the lead so far, but that her supporters are quite strong in their commitment to her...

She is also the second choice of the majority of Democrats, meaning the notion that she is benefiting from a split in ABC voting is simply wrong...
