Can we filibuster the Capitulation Supplemental?
Can we put together enough support among anti-war Democrats and Republicans in the Senate, to prevent cloture on this supplemental funding bill and prevent it's passage out of Congress?

I understand that normally it's the minority party that undertakes filibusters. But if the majority of the majority disagrees with a decision of the party leadership, couldn't they also filibuster to prevent passage of the bill?

Can we put together 41 votes in the Senate to stop passage of the Capitulation Supplemental?

No funding bill is a victory in the fight to end this war. If we can prevent the passage of this Capitulation Supplemental, then the pressure will mount on Bush to truly compromise or start bringing the troops back home.

Filibuster this horrible Capitulation Supplemental.

1. I doubt it -- the Rethugs will be all over this bill
It not only gives their fuckstain-in-chief everything he wants, it does it with political cover. Every time the Dems get up and spin this as "not a blank check" or "holding the president accountable", they make it more and more politically convenient for the rethugs to support it.

Once it's passed, the repugs will go back to their constituents and pretend that they defied * and voted to end the war, while the Dems will have to apologize again and again for their capitulation.

Hello 2008 GOP majority.

2. What have we got to lose to push a filibuster?
The actions by the Democratic leadership have already been disastrous in this debate. First they announced their intent to capitulate at the beginning, by saying they would never "cut off funding for the troops". Then after several months of Kabuki theatre, they fulfill their prediction of capitulation, by capitulating. The single stupidest political negotiation I have ever witnessed.

At this point, our party is leaderless on this issue. We the people must lead. And our only option is to push for a filibuster by all the anti-war Senators in the Senate. We have to start calling our Senators and urging them to filibuster the Capitulation Supplemental.

We got 29 votes on Feingold/Reid to pull out by March 31, 2008. Surely we can get 41 votes to not give Bush a blank check for the rest of this year?

Remember, an impasse in this situation is our friend. Can't we force such a stalemate?

3. How do you push a filibuster? If you don't have 41 votes, you don't have a filibuster
The old-fashioned read-the-phonebook filibuster went out in the 70s. Dodd and Feingold can surely try, but they'll be voted down in a matter of minutes.

4. Can you name the twelve senators?
In fact, I suspect its safe to assume that some of the 29 who supported Feingold/Reid, which would've continued spending on the war through March 2008, won't be voting against a bill to fund the war through September 2007.
