Ravalli County (MT) special election results - Republicans lose across the board
Another sign that the political shift runs deeply - a rout of the Republicans in what has been solid red local politics since I can remember. I take the change in Commission structure to be another sign of dissatisfaction with Republican rule.

With 19 percent of potential votes counted, some 16,267 out of 29,000-plus registered voters, the county's Democrats and the sole independent candidate led by solid margins in the three partisan races, leaving the GOP in the dark.

The Democratic emergence signaled a shift from past elections, as the county commission has long been Republican controlled. If early results stand, the commission will be split with commissioners standing on both sides of three aisles and one independent.

In November's election voters opted for two out of five changes in county government put forth by a study commission - reducing term lengths from six to four years and increasing the number of commissioners from three to five. The changes brought about Tuesday's special election.
