Edited on Wed Jun-27-07 08:48 PM by Hart2008
The poor dog was scared to the point of crapping itself.

This guy is like something out of a bad comedy.

What a creep.

26. It's real. The story came directly from the mouth of his son,
and was carried on Boston.com.

Apparently NONE of the Romneys thought it showed anything except Mitt's calmness in the face of crisis.

30. MG, please tell me HOW he's smart. I really want to know, you are an accurate barometer.
So far, I've not seen evidence of the smarts. Long before he became a candidate, it was evident that MA DU'ers couldn't stand him. Since he's joined the clusterfuck to the White House, I've noticed he's kind of idiotic when asked about his core philosophies.

However, he's the most photogenic of the bunch, R or D. I'm thinking that might be his edge. The intellect, though. I'm just not seeing it. MKJ

36. Speaking As A Mass DUer Myself...
He was able to pull off getting elected here with a very skillful campaign. And you can see that he's improving with time on the presidential campaign trail (since he has zero principles, it's easy for him to adapt to whatever the electorate wants.)

Like Bush, he was born with a platinum spoon in his mouth - however, unlike Bush, Romney was also very successful in business by being very smart (and again, perfectly amoral).

It's interesting how a number of people in the local media have described interviewing him as creepy - he's affable, but it's clear that you're not talking to the real him - it's almost like your talking to an robot, there's no human connection.

50. His campaign wasn't skillful.
Edited on Thu Jun-28-07 07:22 AM by Tesha
> He was able to pull off getting elected here with a very skillful campaign.

His campaign for governor wasn't skillful, it simply
exploited him being in the right place at the right
time.

As you recall, Jane Swift moved up from Lieutenant Guv
to Guv when Bush tapped Paul Celluci to become ambassador
to Socialist Canuckistan. But Swift was a consumately bad
politician, abusing the perks of her office while, worse,
not giving the proper blow jobs and obeisance to CLT
(Barbara Anderson and Citizens for Limited Taxation)
and the rest of the Republican power elite (such as it
is in Massachusetts). As a result, the power elite had
the long knives out for her long before the next
gubernatorial election.

Once they politically murdered her and buried the body
back in Western Mass where they felt she belonged in the
first place, they needed a candidate. Up popped Mr. Goodhair,
fresh from his Master of the Olympics experience, with his
carpetbag still in hand and in need of a launching platform
for an eventual Presidential bid. The Republicans in Mass
were more than willing to prop up Mitt the Twit as their
candidate, using his Bain Capital business experience to
prove that he'd be anti-tax, their only real consideration.

Mitt quickly adjusted his political views on women,
gays, abortion, and the like to not be anathema to the
Mass electorate as a whole and thanks to a pretty nasty
Democratic primary battle, was elected Guv.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

54. That automaton vibe comes out clearly in his appearances.
Very plastic. Very lifeless. Very calculating. Kinda like cheney. Only younger, taller, and with more hair.

If I WERE going to vote for him (yeah, SURE! Early and often!), the dog story would send me screaming into the night. But I had no intention anyway. That just further verifies why I find him objectionable and untrustworthy, not to mention downright dangerous. A cavalier attitude like that about the family pet - presumably the loved family pet - is indicative of things I don't think he'd want you to know about him. VERY glad this story came out. You'd never have found John Kerry strapping his kids' pet to the top of the frickin' car!!!

Edited on Thu Jun-28-07 07:34 AM by Tesha
Mitt always reminds me of the President of TPC (The Phone
Company) in The President's Analyst, played by Pat
Harrington Jr.

You remember him: he's the slick looking smooth-talking
guy who narates the speech delivered to James Coburn,
trying to sell Coburn on "The Cerebrum Communicator",
a little implant that TPC wants to put into everyone's
Bains, err, brains.

Turns out, of course, that like Romney, he's just a
robot who's jacked-in to the TPC computer.

59. I'm afraid I haven't gotten the impression he's intelligent
In fact, I'd say he reminds me of Little Carmine from The Sopranos. How smart is it in this political climate to say something like, "I'd DOUBLE the size of Guantanamo!" He seems to me like the perfect, vacuous, lantern-jawed front man, but not much else.

I do think he'll probably win the nomination in the end, however, because the Bushies will finally get behind him with their money train, and because he'll be able to outspend every other candidate (from his own pocket if need be). I think Jeb has already endorsed him, hasn't he?

From same article:

As organizer of the Salt Lake City Olympic Games, Romney came under fire from some animal welfare groups for including a rodeo exhibition as part of the Games' festivities. At the time, he told protesters, "We are working hard to make this as safe a rodeo for cowboys and animals as is humanly possible."

28. K & R. Must read. Suffer the little children and their family dog.
As the oldest son, Tagg Romney commandeered the way-back of the wagon, keeping his eyes fixed out the rear window, where he glimpsed the first sign of trouble. ''Dad!'' he yelled. ''Gross!'' A brown liquid was dripping down the back window, payback from an Irish setter who'd been riding on the roof in the wind for hours.

As the rest of the boys joined in the howls of disgust, Romney coolly pulled off the highway and into a service station. There, he borrowed a hose, washed down Seamus and the car, then hopped back onto the highway. It was a tiny preview of a trait he would grow famous for in business: emotion-free crisis management.

35. Transportation of dogs 101.
I have a friend who moves his hunting dogs on a regular basis. He swears his dogs get car sick especially when they can see the road. Over the years he a built substantial well ventilated dog carriers for his truck attached to bed with just the right amount of view . The one thing that throws him into a frenzy is the use of plastic dog carriers. If you are in an accident a dog in a plastic carrier has no chance. With his custom built dog carriers he figures his dogs have an equal chance of survival as he does. I have also heard him say he prefers to go with his dogs.

Mr. Romney is not a humanitarian and not a dog lover.

In order to get to Canada with a pet you need to have your papers together and need to be transporting the animal in a certain manner.

Also in some cases a country has the right to quarantine the animal for 30 or 60 days.

WTF!!! He should have been turned back at the border if he had the animal like this!!

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED? Did he have the dog on the roof because he was smuggling it into Canada?

It kind of sounds like this entire story is made up. I have crossed the Canadian border that they mentioned at least 40 times before i turned 21 and this would have NEVER stood with any border guard.

Gulf or a Protestant in the interior, not drinking either coffee, tea, Coke or whiskey, and now to not treat a dog well. Sorry Mittens, the only thing that a Southerner likes more than a glass of sweet tea is a pot of coffee and a 2 liter bottle of highly caffeinated soda -- and their dogs.
