John Edwards to Address the Nation on Iraq (tonight on MSNBC)
John responds to President Bush
JOHN EDWARDS 08

Tonight, after President Bush makes yet another argument for continuing the war in Iraq, John Edwards will speak directly to the American people in a nationwide address on MSNBC.

John will challenge the President's remarks with a strong call to the nation to end the war now.

1. Will there be an "official" Dem Party rebuttal tonight?
I haven't seen anything about who that will be, otherwise, they should pay for JE's ad :D

3. It's a paid ad by Edwards, I understand
Unless this is a separate thing.

I hope the Dems take advantage of their free rebuttal time also.

9. It's a paid ad and fundraiser:
"Such an ad also can pay for itself sometimes by becoming a fundraising vehicle. The Edwards campaign planned to e-mail supporters to encourage them to watch and provide them with a link for making a donation."

7. There is only one voting Sen/Rep who has started redeeming him/herself
for their vote on giving Dick his war - Edwards.

8. How has he redeemed himself more than
Clinton, or anyone else who voted for the IWR?

speeches and his package appear to support the people. The people are defending themselves against the war declared on them by the corporations who are the benefeciaries of war along with some politicians. There is a big difference between allegiance owed the corporations by H Clinton and that owed by Edwards since the start of the campaign, if not before. I only have my gut to tell me that based on what he's been saying, he wouldn't be where H Clinton is right now - a hawk with hawk backing (and maybe his voting records would prove it if there was one). Maybe. I think so.

11. His voting record puts him to the right of Hillary
on policies regarding Iraq. As far as corporations, do you mean corporate donors? Generally speaking, corporate donors tend to back winners and spread the wealth around to cover their bets. It's not hard to take a stand against lobbyist money, when few were going to give it anyway IMO.

If your gut tells you to support him, then I can't argue with you, but mine tells me the reverse.

13. I support Gore. I support Kucinich. I support Feingold - his vote against
the Patriot Act makes up for some other votes of his that I questioned.

I recognize Edwards. I'm only saying that he's doing better for me on the issues that are important to me.

I refrain from igniting my fury against Sen. Clinton and the other DLC candidate(s)/member(s).

19. I would never argue against who you're supporting,
I was only questioning why you thought Edwards redeemed himself more than the others.

18. Yes I do,
sorry about that, I just got back from grocery shopping:

"While the two voted together the vast majority of the time, there are several striking differences here that are definitely worth our time.

While both were initially supporters of granting President Bush the authority to invade Iraq, John Edwards was actually to the right of Hillary for some time. Edwards voted against liberal efforts to: Limit the war authority for just one year, after which the President would have had to seek it again; Call for tax increases to pay for the war effort; Force the creation of a report on the possible manipulation of intelligence in the lead-up to the Iraq War. On those votes, Hillary voted the more liberal position.

Then things changed in late 2003: The two switched places, most notably with Edwards voting against the $87 billion appropriation — with Hillary Clinton making up the more pro-Administration half. And as the Presidential campaign progressed, Edwards' attendance for more Senate votes suffered a severe drop.

Of course, all of this is qualified by a simple fact: In 2005, John Edwards publicly recanted his previous support for the war, something Hillary yet to do so bluntly."

I use it all the time, but I like the TPM article because they were comparing the candidates side by side on one issue.

12. SWEETNESS
At least the Dem leadership realizes Edwards has developed some of the clearest, most sincere talking points on why we need to get out. Although I hope his message isn't too divisive, I'm also hoping he clearly challenges Dems to do the right thing and stop funding the monstrosity.
