Son of Wisconsin governor, Gus Doyle, endorses Barack Obama
While his father remains studiously neutral about endorsing any of the Democratic presidential candidates, Gus Doyle -- Gov. Jim Doyle's oldest son -- is set to endorse U.S. Sen. Barack Obama at a campus campaign event tonight.

It's the first time that Gus Doyle, who with his brother, Gabe, figured prominently in several of the Democratic governor's TV ads last year, has publicly endorsed any candidate other than his father.

"I trust him," Doyle, 32, said of Obama, whom he met during one of the Illinois senator's campaign trips to Wisconsin last year. "When you have the opportunity to hear him speak, he's very forceful. You get the sense that it's not the same-old, same-old."

Doyle will be the keynote speaker tonight at the first meeting of the Students for Obama on the UW Madison campus. The meeting will be held in Room 1100 Grainger Hall beginning at 6 p.m.

Doyle says Obama's appeal to young people is evident.

Young people "want a change. They days of status quo politics are behind us, and you can see that desire for change in the volunteers and the sheer volume of people getting involved in this campaign."

Doyle is one of the highest-profile Wisconsin Democrats to back Obama, who has also been endorsed by U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore of Milwaukee.

1. I don't mean to be rude...
but who in the hell cares who the son of the Governor of Wisconsin has endorsed? I live in Wisconsin, and I couldn't care less. I mean, what's next? The brother-in-law of the Delaware Secretary of State endorses Edwards? The second-cousin twice removed of the New Mexico State Auditor endorses Hillary?

Sheesh...

3. No, I think I'll piss right here...
This is a discussion board. You don't want discussion? Don't post.

Don't get me wrong. It's not like I'm NOT going to vote for Obama, or Hillary, or any other Democrat this side of Joe Lieberman if Edwards doesn't get the nomination. I just think that when you're counting the key endorsements, the son of the governor of a state with a late-season primary is not exactly the gold standard.

5. My discussion is to observe...
that we're getting a little giddy and possibly a little strident in our "who's on first" postings.

That observation being made, and as it appears there is no discussion on the subject other than between the two of us, I'm done.

6. A governor's son is actually a pretty good deal
It's one step away from a governor's endorsement, which is great for getting rallies going.

As for Wisconsin, it might certainly come into play if no candidate gets an overwhelming amount of votes on February 5. Plus on a grassroots level, Wisconsin folks can go over to Iowa to help out. I have.
