Cornyn's Senate Resolution Condemning MoveOn Passes Overwhelmingly, with Lots of Dems
Reso Condemning MoveOn Passes Overwhelmingly, With Lots Of Dems

By Greg Sargent - September 20, 2007, 1:00PM

The GOP-introduced resolution condemning MoveOn just passed by a huge margin, 72-25. Roughly half the Democrats in the Senate supported it.

A couple of the more interesting votes: Jim Webb, who just yesterday was a Netroots hero, voted for it, even though the last thing he needs as a military guy is cover on something like this.

Meanwhile, Hillary -- who's been under assault by Rudy for refusing to condemn MoveOn but who's also locked in a tough Dem primary -- stood her ground and voted No.

We'll have a list of Dems who backed this thing and Dems who voted against it in a bit. Stay tuned.

Everything is going down the sh*tter all at the same time and the Constitution is being shredded, but it certainly is time to go after some non-profit that dares to make an ad that doesn't suck up to the Chimpministration.

Time to give MoveOn some money. Let's thank the Repugs and those who voted for this for the free advertising!

4. How easily our Dems in the Senate fold up under Repub pressure....
But on Dem bills, Repubs are like granite. We have a bunch of weasels in there!

6. And another DUer just this morning was telling me how wonderful Harry Reid is.
And yet, he allows a monstrosity like this to get on the agenda.

Way to go, Harry. The GOP couldn't ask for a better leader.

May be if we had made clear to them that it was important, they would have heard.

BTW, Reid voted NO, http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&session=1&vote=00344

10. Excuses, excuses. As long as people are willing to make excuses for them,
there's no reason for them to change.

Reid is a disgrace, and the public apparently has figured it out. Look for Congress 11% approval ratings to hit the single digits any day now.

12. I do not like Reid anymore than you, but as long as the netroots will not focus
on what matters, do not expect they will listen.

Where was the netroots effort on this bill? On habeas corpus? ... Nowhere. Some people tried, but the big focus was somewhere else.

17. They could have forced the Dems to have a cloture vote so that it was clear the GOP was refusing it
rather than accepting a 60 vote bill!

7. I could have predicted that yesterday. People are unable to make choices.
How many threads calling for action on Habeas Corpus, this issue, or a couple other ones yesterday? As soon as somebody was posting one, it was dropping like lead.

People cant multiplex, and they ignore what is important in order to rant and rant!

11. Here comes the rage again
I am having flashbacks to the FISA vote. Whose support are they going after exactly? I realize that Republicans in Congress are well to the right of Republican voters, but do Democrats in Congress think that by staking some middle ground the Republican voters will suddenly switch sides? Nothing, absolutely nothing, that the Republicans sponsor should get cloture until a vote on withdrawal does.

19. It does not matter. A resolution is just 'fluff' anyway. I will be sure to ask my Senators if
they've ever even read the Bill of Rights though.

22. Democrats who voted for the condemnation resolution.

I'm very upset with the Democratic Senators who voted for this resolution. I'm a member of MoveOn, didn't particularly like the add, but am appalled by the Senate vote. Even with a majority, our lame-duck Democrat/Repugnocrat Senators somehow got forced to denounce the add, while not even having the grit to add the denouncement of the Republican attack adds to it... they continue to be out-maneuvered and out-witted on their way to being out-of-office.

I'm from Montana, I know that Senator Tester would not currently be a Senator without the hard work (and Money) provided by Move-On minded individuals in this State. That support, and support for Senator Baucus (who is up for re-election in '08), has taken a serious hit. The contributions that I'd planned to his campaign will now be going to other candidates, and I will be vocal in encouraging others to act the same way. They've bitten the hand that worked hard to get them elected.

Here's a list of the Democrats (or should I say Repugnocrats) who voted for the resolution:

Baucus
Bayh
Cardin
Carper
Casey
Conrad
Dorgan
Feinstein
Johnson
Klobuchar
Kohl
Landrieu
Leahy
Lieberman
Lincoln
McCaskill
Mikulski
Bill Nelson
Ben Nelson
Pryor
Salazar
Tester
Webb
