confusing Obama picture
I just received this picture in my email with this message. I'm confused -- seriously -- and trust there's a back-story that hasn't been shared. Anyone know about this enough to fill me in?

"Senator Barack Obama, Governor Bill Richardson, Senator Hillary Clinton and Ruth Harkin stand during the national anthem.
Barack Hussein Obama's photo ......the article said he REFUSED TO NOT ONLY PUT HIS HAND ON HIS HEART DURING THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE, BUT REFUSED TO SAY THE PLEDGE.....how in the hell can a man like this expect to be our next Commander-in-Chief????"

Okay, I DO NOT AGREE with the breathless, scandalous treatment of what little info they offered and I wasn't offered an Article -- the one they referred to -- to link to. But, again, if anyone has any info I can refute this with, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm not an Obama fan, per se, but I don't appreciate misinformation and try to correct it any chance I can.

P.S. If anyone can get this pic to post via the link, that'd be great.

2. Dumb...
Who knows when the picture was taken...the song or pledge may have just ended and Obama was the first to put his hand down when the picture was taken...could be anything...

3. I agree with you all
but I'd like something to be able to send back to my Aunt who -- much to my surprise! -- sent me this. Any info at all when this was taken or what the circumstances were?

P.S. I edited a part of the email that I found a bit too incendiary ... even for DU!

4. Link doesn't work for me but
if it's the photo I think you're talking about, there's some truth to it.

8. yeah
same picture. Disappointed by it, of course, but not a deal-breaker for me should he get the nomination. I can't speak for other more "sensitive" or "patriotic" types, though.

9. IMO
It was a stupid thing for a Presidential candidate to do/or not do.

I've sent that link to my Aunt and asked that she not include me on any future political mailing lists. I get enough info from DU!

7. my Aunt!
who I thought was a sane, rational person. I don't often receive email like this and I'd love to refute whatever back story they're trying to peddle, but, if it's true, I'm just not gonna respond.

I have asked her, though, to not send me politically motivated email in the future.

10. Bush holds his hand over his heart for the Pledge. He also wears a flag lapel pin.
And he is one of the least patriotic people I can think of. Physical gestures and wrapping onself in the flag do not reveal what's in a person's heart and mind.

12. if you follow the Snopes link
that's exactly what Obama says. It may be hard for alleged "patriotic" people to buy that, but they probably wouldn't vote for him anyway.

20. OH MY GOD BARACK OBAMA HATES AMERICA!
The idiotic use of his middle name in the email should tip you off. I commented on a post re this earlier this week. It is proper etiquette to put one's hand over their heart during the Pledge of Allegiance, however it is proper etiquette to stand in reverence during the National Anthem. Either/Or does not saluting our flag actually at one political event somehow equate being unAmerican? (And btw - it is totally inappropriate to use the flag as decoration - or for advertising purposes - so Tom Harkin and the Iowa Democratic Party should be admonished for doing both - using the American flag to decorate the stage AND making a profit off of the use of the flag.)
