NBC/WSJ poll: Clinton leads rivals by 20 points, in dead heat with Giuliani
NYT/Reuters: Clinton, Giuliani In Dead Heat In 2008 Race: Poll
By REUTERS
Published: November 7, 2007

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - New York Sen. Hillary Clinton still holds a 20-point lead over her rivals for the Democratic presidential nomination but she and Republican front-runner Rudy Giuliani are in a dead heat, according to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released on Wednesday.

Among Democrats, Clinton leads with 47 percent, followed by Illinois Sen. Barack Obama at 25 percent and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards with 11 percent, NBC reported. Clinton's 22-point advantage over Obama in the poll is virtually unchanged since this summer.

In the new poll, 76 percent of Democrats surveyed give Clinton high marks for being knowledgeable and experienced enough to handle the presidency, compared with just 41 percent who say the same about Obama, NBC said. When asked who was more likable, 72 percent said Obama versus 49 percent for Clinton. A majority, 65 percent, also viewed the Illinois senator as more honest and straightforward versus 53 percent who rated Clinton higher, NBC reported.

While Clinton is out front in the Democratic field, she would be neck-and-neck in a hypothetical general election match-up against former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, NBC said. According to the poll, Clinton leads Giuliani by just one point, 46 percent to 45 percent, a statistical tie. In September, Clinton was 7 points ahead of Giuliani, 49 percent to 42 percent....

3. I think this article gives a little different take on the poll. I kicked Herman Munster's post...
back from page two, so folks could take a look at both. Thanks, Clark -- I searched, but missed the previous post.

2. I have to believe that honesty and likeablity will win in the end.
Clinton's claim to experience is nothing but hot air.

5. I think that Clinton will probably end up getting the nomination...
Though I prefer Kucinich and Biden...but her experience just makes her more presidential. Obama just lacks what it takes.

8. She may have more to fear from Ron Paul than Rudy Guiliani
Both Hillary and Rudy will be dragged through the mud from both sides. Thing is that the GOP is running out of money and even a jerk like Guiliani is out of touch with the Neanderthal false Christian GOP base.

I expect Congressman Paul to run on a third party ticket. Who this will hurt is debatable. My guess is that a third party Ron Paul candidacy will pull votes from moderate republicans and voters who previously didn't vote at all.

So to that extent it'll help Hillary just as Ross Perot helped Bill Clinton in 1992. Ron Paul is a rising start right now and gaining traction with large money donations from internet support. He's far smarter than the average GOP candidate too.

Expect there to be an "Anyone except a republican" mindset in 2008. The choice then becomes between Paul and Hillary. Mark my word.

12. Nice Name. You could be right
but I think that would just further solidify ever growing support for Clinton. The 2004 puke base is so disgusted they probably just won't vote at all - for President. Beware what they will try to do in Senate, House and State races! I have been warning about that forever.....and ever.

9. Edwards and Obama beat Hillary hands down in contests with
the Republicans. Hillary may be holding her own with Giuliani, but Edwards and Obama are way ahead of her when pitted against the other Republican candidates. Hillary's negatives are very high. Edwards' are very low.

11. From the poll's findings, it appears voters have "reservations" about Clinton's honesty.
Edited on Thu Nov-08-07 02:42 AM by ClarkUSA
"Americans have turned sharply away from President Bush and toward domestic issues favoring his partisan adversaries.
But offsetting that demand for change in the presidential contest are reservations about Clinton’s truthfulness and
ideology, even as Americans applaud her experience and leadership qualities."

That said, national polls are next to meaningless. I'd love to know what the post-debate internal polls out of Iowa look like.

14. Without honesty and likeability, any candidate is on the ropes
These are perceived weaknesses already, and will no doubt be exploited by the Republican campaign.

A one point lead by Guiliani after a 6 point Hillary lead last month is a scary shift.
