District Superintendent Sam McGowen said that he thinks the penalty is fair and that administrators in the school east of St. Louis were following policy in the student handbook.

2. Not just no but Hell no
I can understand the desire to prevent snogging in the hallways between class, and I am all for policies telling teachers not to molest students, but a generic blanket ban on "public displays of affection" is ridiculous.

How can you understand the desire to prevent it, and then say that banning it is ridiculous? :eyes:

It sounds like Hillary's position on the Spitzer plan! ;-)

6. Hear me out on this
Many school hallways are fairly narrow. Two people together like that form a block. It also prompts people to slow down and stare or tease. The result is a traffic jam, which delays other students getting to class. I have no problem in principle with snogging in the hallways between class, provided it does not interfere with others. As one grande dame is reputed to have said about homosexuality, "I don't care what they do, as long as they do not frighten the horses."

If the kissing couple would follow the cat-calls of their classmates and get a room, there would be no traffice jam and I would have nothing to complain about. :hi:

7. Just cover her in cosmoline
I presume you're kidding for the sake of the joke. :hi:

But these "zero tolerance" policies just aggravate me. "Well, we don't want to make distinctions, adjudications, and we can't be bothered to explain it or discuss it with these little monsters or their ignorant parents, so we'll just ban the whole thing." I sympathize with school administrators' desire for order so they can get on with their core mission, but in addition to passing on knowledge to their charges, schools are also social settings, where we should learn about how we treat others, and how they treat us.
