JOE BIDEN on Pakistan
I don't understand why Joe Biden isn't leading the pack with what's going on in the Middle East. Are people oblivious (or making themselves so) because it doesn't hit them when they walk out their door to go to work in the morning? Take a good look at the statement below. Does this man get it or what?

"It is hard to imagine a greater nightmare for America than the world's second-largest Muslim nation becoming a failed state in fundamentalist hands, with an arsenal of nuclear weapons and a population larger than those of Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and North Korea combined".
- Senator Joe Biden

1. On the dangerous world stage, I'd like someone like Biden in the lead part
instead of the Bush/Rumsfeld/Rice group currently in the cast.

My guess is that quite a few Iowans are likely to connect the dots between Biden's expertise in global affairs versus Bush's unmitigated disaster in the same arena, and cast their votes accordingly.

Bush is not technically on the ballot, but he's on it in every other way.

2. He summed it all up in one frightening sentence
Also from the same article, comparing the Pakistan situation to 1970's Iran:

<Musharraf said his decision to suspend the constitution and oust the country's top judge were necessary to prevent a takeover by Islamic extremists. Biden disagreed, saying in the speech that such moves will only invite extremists, similar to those in Iran nearly three decades ago.

In 1979, hundreds of militant Iranian university students seized the U.S. Embassy in Tehran because they objected to U.S. support for their leader, Mohammed Reza Pahlavi. About 70 Americans were held hostage for 444 days. They were released in January 1981 when Ronald Reagan was sworn in as president.

Biden said this scenario could be repeated, only this time with nuclear implications.>

4. Pakistan is in South Asia
not the Middle East. Sorry... don't mean to be a know-it-all. But I think it's important that we know our geography. Living in Nepal I've had to learn. Remember, Pakistan was once part of India.

9. You're welcome!
And I think Biden is awesome. I'm trying to convince Americans living here that he stands a chance in the primaries.

Shanti (peace)

5. His brilliance regarding the state of things on the world stage continues to
amaze me - and fill me with hope. Not only is he far more aware of what's transpiring, he has an awe-inspiring depth of understanding of the situation, and what the best course is to address it.

There is no comparison at all when it it comes to the other candidates.

Don't despair, Kad - people ARE noticing and little by little coming to the same conclusion that we have -- Biden is absolutely who we need leading this country in these fragile times.

7. He is doing what Bush can't or won't
Even in the middle of a presidential campaign, he has his eye on the ball, calling Musharraf and trying to talk him off the ledge. Bush? Buehler? Buehler???

What would it be like to have a president who knows what to do. January 2009 cannot come soon enough, and if Joe Biden is in the WH, I will be much less scared than I am now.

10. I think it has something to do with why McDonalds is America's most popular restaurant.
Even though the attitude that makes it so is killing us.

We're selfish and not very smart. I'm just hoping the stupidity hasn't metastasize too badly. I don't want our country to fail, but we definitely will if we don't change course, and it's not as simple as electing a Democratic president rather than a Repub. Democrats have a lot of the same problems as the Republicans. Some Democrats think we just have to be more liberal. That's naive. It's just so difficult for Americans to think objectively.

I didn't start supporting Biden for any particular love for the guy or for any particular ideological bent of his. In fact, he was one of the last on my list of Democratic candidates. I always enjoyed listening to him on the morning talk shows. I think I've even thought he'd make a good president. I had been weighing the pros and cons of the candidates when I heard one of the political pundits on NPR state that the Democrats would be foolish to ignore Joe Biden's candidacy just because of a poor choice of words when complimenting Obama, which admittedly was an initial turn off for me. I thought, that's true.

I was finding too many problems with all the candidates, though I liked them all. I'm liking Hillary less and less as the campaign rolls on. When I started seriously looking at Biden there weren't the gaps that the others had. I started leaning toward him and as I learned more about him my support grew, particularly his debate performances, even though the dumb-down, money-sucking media seems to have made a conscious decision to ignore him. This is particularly evident in the debates. But even though he's given less time than the "top tier," he still does better than them, and that's saying a lot. The others are increasingly looking alike, and I've always loved seeing an underdog take on the popular, well-funded Goliaths. I truly feel that there isn't another candidate that could do more for our country than Joe Biden, and I don't envy anyone who gets that job after our nation's worst president. So much of the next 4 years will be spent cleaning up Bush's mess. I think a person should be very exceptional to go down in history as an American president and, to me, Biden is the only one who has proven himself worthy of that honor. He's earned the chance.

12. Nicely said
I don't envy anyone following Bush either. It is hard to imagine anyone wanting the job, but I believe Biden's motives are sincere.
