BREAKING: We just overrode (defeated) a Bush VETO!
Edited on Thu Nov-08-07 12:25 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
A minor victory (water projects bill) but our first successful chimp-veto override none the less.

Veto Overridden 79-14 in the senate. (Overridden in the house yesterday)

1. LOL! Looks pretty bad to vote against WATER! Hopefully an OXYGEN bill
would get overriden, too.

3. That's not minor at all; I just wonder why * vetoed it, knowing it'd be
shot down by both parties. Makes no sense to me. Just to be ornery?

10. I think he's just going to veto everything the Dems pass from here on out..
Because Democrats are bad, m'kay.

That's why impeachment is mandatory, it's just about the only thing he can't veto.

33. That's what BUSH I did in 1992. Set the record for vetoes in a year.
Didn't seem to help him, though.

7. Why did McCaskill and Feingold vote no? I can kind of see
old Russ standing on some weird principle, but I suspect anymore that McCaskill is a closet Republican. She's getting to be worse than my own beloved Ben Nelson, who voted aye.

12. I think they have bigger things to worry about than a water projects bill.
Like staying out of prison for instance.

I suspect you read speculation that it would be over-ridden.

place a couple of days ago. Today the Senate voted to override the veto.

27. local pork and lack of controversy
rules. It's something though. Thinking this might progress to different matters? I am sure there is plenty of pork in the defense bills and others too. When the people in the individual states get the message they might have something to say more than the WH hardliners. In these cases I bet the WH was just not particularly involved. They rule by self-interest, pre-occupied in other areas and could give a dam about a water bill.

If you look at their pattern of setbacks they are usually beaten on the physical ground, such as Anwar, but not in attacks on rights or foreign policy or the general budget or national items like children's health care. This comes with their disdain for porkish Congress small concerns and small details. To us some big items have been won when it actuality it is lack of WH real interest. There is always the signing statements, simply not spending the money(or diverting it to their pals), when the small stuff gets too burdensome. They keep coming back for Anwar too. No rush.
